With the colossal success of Yellowstone’s prequels, including 1883 and 1923, the studio has been hellbent on expanding the Yellowstone universe. And considering the scheduling conflict between Kevin Costner and the studios, the show may mark its end with the fifth season and allow more spin-offs to expand its universe.

Paramount’s most critically acclaimed show, Yellowstone may end its run with the fifth season, as the studios are eying to move the franchise forward through other spin-offs. And it appears that the Yellowstone star Kevin Costner may not return for the future of this universe moving forward.
Kevin Costner has garnered immense praise over the last five years for his role as John Dutton and has also garnered a Golden Globe under his belt for Best Actor in a Drama Series. But the studio and the actor may soon cut their ties due to Kevin Costner’s frequent scheduling conflicts, as the actor is currently busy directing and starring in his multi-part western epic Horizon.
As the studios have reportedly denied Costner’s current requests, it seems that they are looking forward to spectacularly ending the classic show and marking the end of John Dutton’s legacy. And it appears that the studios are heading forward to expand the Yellowstone franchise with the critically acclaimed actor Matthew McConaughey.
Matthew McConaughey in talks for a new Yellowstone spinoff
After witnessing the colossal success of the Yellowstone prequels, which includes 1883 and 1923, it seems that the studio isn’t as dependent on the Yellowstone show as they were some years back. And the studio overlords are satisfied with their magnum opus ending with its fifth season while focusing on other Tom Sheridan projects for the universe, which may star Matthew McConaughey.
Although it isn’t clear whether the potential spin-off will be set on the Dutton ranch in Montana or elsewhere, many stars from the original show are expected to return. According to reports, the True Detective star Matthew McConaughey is currently in talks for Tom Sheridan’s new project. A Paramount Network spokesperson stated,
“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner”
Although Paramount has stated that they would like to have Kevin Costner at the center of their ambitious universe. But considering their scheduling issues, the studio may move forward with other Taylor Sheridan projects for the universe, which may star Matthew McConaughey at its forefront.
The second part of the 5th season of Yellowstone will be released in the summer of 2023.
