The actress is loved by all, and it’s hard to imagine her getting in trouble that too with the law. But that had already happened with Witherspoon when her husband, Tim Toth, received a DUI in 2013.

He was charged with drunk driving, while she had to deal with some disorderly conduct charges for messing with the cops. Later, she apologized for her conduct on multiple occasions.

The Home Again actress looked back at the moment on the I Weigh podcast. She was praised for how she reacted to the moment. She admits that she did “something really stupid,” and it was so “embarrassing and dumb.” Witherspoon then continued saying:

“But you know what? Turns out, I breathe air. I bleed the same way. I make dumb decisions. I make great decisions. I’m just a human being.”

The Oscar winner had to step up and issue a statement explaining:

“I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said… It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

The arrest came at a time when Witherspoon had tight schedules because of promotional events for one of her movies. Following this, the star had to adjust her plans, which included canceling appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

At that time, Reese Witherspoon was in full-on promotion mode for her movie Mud in 2013. Then, following the unexpected arrest on April 19, the actress had to cancel appearances, including an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, and another on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Fallon didn’t take advantage of Witherspoon’s situation to use it as fuel for his monologue, but Jimmy Kimmel had some fun with what had happened. About Witherspoon’s arrest, Kimmel said (via US Weekly):

“The police report says she asked the cop ‘Do you know my name? You’re about to find out who I am.’ Does that ever work? ‘Do you know who I am?’ is second only to ‘Do you know who my father is? It’s a bad question because the answer is either ‘no’ — which is embarrassing — or ‘yes, and you’re going to jail.”

So, even though Kimmel had fun with Witherspoon’s situation, she held no grudges against him. She showed up on his show multiple times after that and even recently appeared again in 2023.
