Emma Watson explained why she stepped away from acting

Emma Watson entered the film industry at a very young age. With her performances as Hermione in the Harry Potter series, the actress became a household name. After her last big-screen appearance in Little Women, Watson didn’t sign any projects and took a temporary retirement from her work. The reason for stepping away from acting was not the shortage of projects, but, yes, for Watson, what matters is having a say in any project.

During an interview, the actress shed light on why she is not being involved in any Hollywood projects. The actress said that the reason why she stepped away from acting was that she wasn’t content with the roles she was offered.

Watson explained that she felt “caged” and found it challenging to promote the films that she had little control over. The actress further mentioned that when journalists ask her about her opinion on a particular project, she feels uncomfortable being the face and spokesperson for projects where she has minimal involvement. Watson said,

“I was held accountable in a way that I began to find really frustrating because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say. And I started to realize that I only wanted to stand in front of things where if someone was going to give me flak about it, I could say, in a way that didn’t make me hate myself, ‘Yes, I screwed up, it was my decision, I should have done better.'”

Though the actress has taken a break from the film industry, this doesn’t mean that she is done with acting; instead, Watson is just waiting for the right opportunities where she has more creative involvement.
