Now, Reeves is set to star in the upcoming film, the third installment of the series helmed by Jeff Fowler. He will lend his choice to Shadow, and John Campea was the first source to break the news about his casting.

The teaser for the film was unveiled at CinemaCon this week. Paramount had a slate full at the event this time around, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was just one of them. Not much has trickled out of the closed doors of CinemaCon with regard to this film, though.

However, reports suggest that Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey, created Shadow to help him get out of a depressive episode after the events of the second film. Reeves’ character is the polar opposite of the protagonist, and, in some ways, he is anti-Sonic.

The first film came out in 2020 and was a huge success at the box office. Made on a budget of $85 million, the film minted nearly $320 million globally. Its sequel performed even better, earning $405 million worldwide.

Ben Schwartz plays Sonic, the titular character, whereas James Marsden plays Tom Wachowski, his human friend. With Reeves, the excitement around the new film will only increase further.

Keanu Reeves’ role was possibly foreshadowed, and the fans have one request

The Constantine actor has delivered back-to-back hits, and he looks set to continue the streak with the new Sonic film. Reeves was already in the first film, albeit in a different capacity.

In one scene, the hedgehog tries to get in touch with his best friend, Tom. One night, Tom plays Reeves’ film Speed, which causes Sonic to excitedly exclaim, “Yes! Keanu! You are a national treasure.”
