The Sweet Baby Inc. controversy continues to spiral out of control as a new rumor surfaced alleging the company asked for $7M from Black Myth: Wukong’s gaming studio. However, the claims haven’t been proven legitimate yet, leading many netizens to call for waiting for evidence. This includes a tweet from video game designer David Jaffe, who has worked on the God of War series.
The source for the story’s origin still needs to be clarified, but this has yet to stop netizens from voicing their opinions against Sweet Baby Inc. The narrative development and consultation studio based in Montreal has found itself at the center of yet another controversy after a tumultuous past few months.
God of War’s David Jaffe Urges Netizens to Wait For Evidence
According to rumors and some Chinese forums, Sweet Baby Inc. asked Game Science for $7M to fix Black Myth: Wukong and make it more appealing to a mass audience. Game Science reportedly turned down the proposition as the game’s release date inches closer.
Since the rumor surfaced, netizens have jumped on the bandwagon, accusing Sweet Baby Inc. of essentially “extorting” money in the name of narrative design. Sweet Baby Inc. has also been in the spotlight for the past few months after netizens found a clip of the company’s founder, Kim Belair, where she gave some questionable comments on how to run a narrative design company.
What’s interesting is that the allegation regarding asking for money from Game Science has no definitive proof as of now. Some netizens believe this was just a rumor that started to tarnish Sweet Baby Inc.’s image even further. God of War’s David Jaffe took to Twitter to explain that bashing Sweet Baby Inc. without any reason is redundant, and netizens should wait for evidence to pop up.
He also tweeted that some gamers will believe anything they see, and this is more a case of gamers satisfying their personal bias instead of looking over facts. As one would expect, he did receive pushback, but he maintains that waiting for evidence is the right course of action.
Black Myth: Wukong Is Shrouded in Controversies
Apart from the fact that Black Myth: Wukong’s gameplay was shown almost four years ago, and the development took a decent time, the game has recently found itself in a lot of controversies.
Last year, IGN ran a story accusing Game Science with allegations of sexism within the studio. The article highlighted how some questionable images could be seen in Game Science’s recruitment poster, and the company had a troublesome logo. That said, the developers did not respond to the allegations, and it seems we won’t be getting any clarification on that end.
This allegation was followed by a huge backlash from the community against IGN and the lack of basis for their claims. Furthermore, Black Myth: Wukong is currently the most wishlist game on Steam, highlighting how the allegations have not deterred gamers from wanting the game.
