As is expected of any famous franchise, the market is flooded with its merchandise and other products, such as games and action figures. Despite being extremely famous, the Harry Potter series has failed to see a successful game released until now, as Hogwarts Legacy seems to fill the gap.

Expected to release early next year, it is an action-roleplaying game that will also be open-world. Open world games are all the rage at the moment, considering the success of Genshin Impact and hype around GTA 6.

What to expect from the game?

In an attempt to simulate the success of the movies, Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to attend classes related to  Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Potions, and many more. Players will also be able to customize many aspects of their character including their voice and gender.

Hogwarts Legacy will focus on the lore surrounding the goblin rebellion, accused by fans of being based on known antisemitic tropes.

Though the game has come under criticism for allowing players to choose their houses too, as they believe it is contrary to what is portrayed in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The only character to choose in the movies has been Harry Potter.

JK Rowling back in controversy

J.K. Rowling has previously come under fire for her tweets on the Transgender community, being deemed as transphobic by many fans. In summary, she was called TERF or trans-exclusionary radical feminist, a feminist who reject the assertion that trans women are women.

When the game was announced to allow fans to choose their house, fans called out J.K. Rowling’s hypocrisy, arguing that Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to choose their house but not their genders.
