Back in 2002, Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson’s Shrek had been making all the rounds. With an iconic story, a distinct visual style, and being one of the best animated films of all time, the movie was bound to get an Oscar.
Shrek won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film by beating the likes of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and, Monsters Inc. When comedian Nathan Lane came on the stage, that’s when things got a little too personal. A resurfaced clip on X (formerly Twitter) has got people having bizarre reactions to the joke. While presenting the award, Nathan Lane announced the names of several animated films including Monsters Inc. After the list was done, the comedian joked,
“Gosh, up until now I thought Monsters Incorporated was a documentary on the Weinsteins.”
With awkward and stifled laughter, the comedian further continued,
“Oh, we kid the rich and powerful because we love them.”
Well, this wasn’t the only case that Nathan Lane had suffered with Harvey Weinstein. 2 years before this incident, Lane was physically assaulted by Harvey Weinstein himself but the comedian was unafraid of the consequences!
Nathan Lane Was Physically Assaulted By Harvey Weinstein
2 years before the Oscar incident, Nathan Lane was at a gala for Hillary Clinton, and alongside him was Weinstein. When the comedian made a joke about the former Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani’s hair, Weinstein physically assaulted him.
As per a report by The Vulture (via Unilad) the producer grabbed Lane and threw him against the wall and reportedly said,
“This is my f***ing show, we don’t need you”
Lane, kindly responded that Harvey Weinstein could not scare him since his career had already been dead!
“You can’t hurt me, I don’t have a film career.”
After Weinstein was accused with evidence in 2017, countless women from around the world protested in the #MeToo movement against other powerful people. The American film producer was charged with several counts including r*pe and sexual assault. Harvey Weinstein is currently serving jail at the Mohawk Correctional Facility in New York.
