With the success of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, fans are clamoring for more Westeros-related series. The HBO prequel already gave a glimpse into the history of the Targaryen civil war, but another developing project, Aegon’s Conquest, will be tracing back the story to the first Targaryen ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

However, it seems like many fans are craving for another epic tale that’s centered on Robert’s Rebellion. For starters, this is the war that eventually led to the makings of the Game of Thrones.

What Happened During Robert’s Rebellion?

Aegon’s Conquest is a planned spinoff series based on George R.R. Martin’s novel, Fire & Blood. The project is still in its early development, as House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that “people are picking my brain all the time. It’s very early days, but we shall see.”

There are scarce details about the project, but screenwriter Mattson Tomlin told the same outlet that he is “currently doing a lot of great back and forth with George.” Many are, of course, waiting for this one as it will focus on Aegon the Conqueror alongside his sisters-wives Visenya and Rhaenys as they unite Westeros.

There is, however, a campaign among fans to bring another fantastic historical tale into the fold. Robert’s Rebellion, also known as the War of the Usurper by the Targaryen supporters, was a major civil war in the history of the Seven Kingdoms. This will be a great follow-up to House of the Dragon because it saw the ruling of the Targaryen dynasty get overthrown by the Baratheon family.

The known reason for Robert’s Rebellion is the kidnapping of Lyanna Stark, which at this point fans know isn’t entirely true. She eloped with Rhaegar Targaryen. When Lord Eddard Stark found Lyanna at the Tower of Joy, he saw her taking her last breath after giving birth to a son. He would claim the child as his own bastard, Jon Snow, for fear that Robert Baratheon would have his innocent nephew killed.

Apart from this, the Mad King was another reason the rebellion occurred. He had killed a lot of people, both high and low-born. He made enemies from various great houses. Robert’s Rebellion saw Lyanna’s abduction as a way to fight and end the Targaryen tyranny.

While Aegon’s Conquest is quite a promising project, fans are deeply missing the Game of Thrones saga, and Robert’s Rebellion is the nearest event in history that could touch this timeline.
