Bohemian Rhapsody is a 2018 biographical musical drama film that focuses on the life of Queen Singer Freddie Mercury. The movie was all about Mercury’s music and, you know, his love life. People went nuts for the movie, and it raked up millions of bucks.

No Time To Die villain Rami Malek was seen in the starring role and garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal, which earned him an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Bafta for Best Actor.

But can you imagine Oscar Isaac as Freddie Mercury? Even though we could, he himself was the one who threw a major chance to be cast in one of the leading roles and films in the industry.

Oscar Isaac spilled the beans that he actually said “no thanks” to playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Speaking with ABC Audio to promote The Addams Family 2″ (in which he voices Gomez Addams), the actor said:

“At the time I was like, ‘I don’t think anybody wants to see somebody pretend to be Freddie Mercury.’ And then, sure enough — everybody wanted to see someone do Freddie Mercury. So that was one that came by.”

Isaac continued:

“I think I could never have done what Rami Malek did. I just think he was — obviously everyone thought so — he was great. But that was a funny one where it was just my thinking was so like, ‘You could just watch him on YouTube. Why would anybody want to watch somebody pretend to do him, you know?'”

The actor must have some other cool projects up his sleeve, but he turned down a front-row ticket to the biggest show in town. Even Sacha Baron Cohen was also doing the film but left the project in July 2013 amid reports of creative differences with the producers.

Oscar Isaac is majorly known for starring in some of the leading films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Suburbicon (2017), Balibo (2009), Dune (2021), and Drive, but he still thinks that he could never have done what Rami Malek did — it looks like Isaac is indirectly saying that he doesn’t really regret his decision.

The 42-year-old confessed that he didn’t believe people would be interested in a biopic on Mercury. But he was quickly proven wrong because Bohemian Rhapsody raked in over 900 million dollars at the box office. The star easily kicked himself because he missed out on a mega-hit like that.

Recently, rumors have been circulating over a possible sequel to the 2018 hit. Last year, Sir Brian May told Express that he found the idea of working on a sequel “exciting” and “very attractive.”

He even dug the name “The Show Must Go On” for it. The Queen guitarist also emphasized the fact that the first movie took us 12 years to find the right script for, so it’s not clear how much it’ll take.
