There’s a reason why James Cameron is called a visionary director and he is worthy of the Oscars that he has won over a successful career in Hollywood. Chatting with fellow director Denis Villeneuve, who’s known for directing Dune and Dune: Part Two, Cameron had a great chat with the director.

Talking about how he had to shoot a scene involving children first, James Cameron revealed that he did not want to use CGI to de-age these kids. As per the director, he had filmed 3 Avatar movies together while filming with kids so that they don’t have to reshoot when they get older and change their appearances!

During the chat, James Cameron mentioned that his Avatar franchise was going smoothly and that he had shot most of the live-action sequences. During Variety‘s chat, Cameron dove head-first into using visual effects in his films and the shooting of live-action that had to be done.

“Two is kind of, you know, it’s fully in the can and you know, we have a working cut that we’re filling in the visual effects within. I feel pretty confident with that film. Uh [Avatar] 3 is still a bit shadowy. It’s way too long and I haven’t really turned my energy into a disciplined cutting process”.

He further continued,

“I know I’ve got it. I know I’ve got the performances and that’s the important thing. I’ve done all the capturing and I’ve done all the…most of the live-action shooting. I still owe a little bit on some of the adult characters.

As the interview progressed, James Cameron joked that he had to shoot the scenes involving kids first because they might grow beards if Cameron were to return after 3-4 years for another Avatar film.

As the interview progressed, Cameron let it slip that he had already shot most of the live-action scenes involving children first. Talking in Variety’s Directors on Directors, the Titanic director stated that shooting the scenes involving the kids was his number one priority.

“Because we were more concerned with the kids aging out. You got to get busy before they uh, they grow a beard, right?”

Denis Villeneuve joked“I must say, you don’t make things easy on yourself” due to the overtly convoluted plan of the Terminator director. Cameron’s 2022 film, Avatar: The Way of Water earned a whopping $2 billion at the global box office. With a high rating and the third part on the way, Avatar: The Way of Water is currently available to stream on Disney+.
