Director Zack Snyder previously revealed that he watched the show and concluded that we are in a “real golden age of TV.” He explained that television has managed to become more exciting than movies, also adding that it is not possible to make a movie out of Euphoria. The director also talked about 2021’s famous TV show Squid Game.

Director Zack Snyder recently teamed up with Anthony and Joe Russo on their podcast, Pizza Film School, and talked about the future of TV shows. The director said,

“I think we’re in a real golden age of TV in the sense that TV shows are much better at showing you something that you’ve never seen before, or catching you off balance or making a turn that you didn’t see coming. They’re way riskier.”

The actor further compared television to cinema stating that TV shows somehow manage to narrate a story in a way that is far better than how it’s done in the movies.

Further in the interview, Snyder decided to give an example to defend his point. He mentioned HBO’s Euphoria and exclaimed that it was “unbelievable.” He said,

“Euphoria, for instance, I was just watching the show [and] it’s just unbelievable. That show shouldn’t exist; it’s so good. And that’s the kind of thing… I watch that show and go, ‘This movie would never get made; this movie can’t exist.'”

The director believes that Euphoria will get ruined if they make it into a movie. Joe Russo then agreed with Snyder.

Zack Snyder then talked about Squid Game, the show that became a worldwide sensation in 2021. He explained that making Squid Game into a movie is possible,

“You could imagine Squid Game coming here as a movie; it would be an arthouse [film], maybe. Euphoria and Squid Game take you to places where you have no idea where you are going or what’s happening, and I think that’s what people want.”

Joe Russo once again agreed and then added,

“Why I think you’re saying TV is now in a golden age is that it is disrupting from a format standpoint. It’s 10 hours of content; it’s eight hours of content. You get a different emotional impact killing a character five hours into a ten-hour story because you’ve spent five hours with that character versus an hour. It’s just different. You’ve assigned more of your time, you have more investment, and when that character goes, you feel it because of that investment.”

Russo Brothers are well-known for creating Avengers: Endgame, and now they have entered the TV shows’ territory as they are currently working on an Amazon Prime series called Citadel.
