For all the iconic movies that Jackie Chan has done a plethora of films in his career that many film connoisseurs would have never heard of. He is the very definition of a dedicated actor who would go to any extent to perform his stunts without the use of a stunt double. As a result, he has become a global phenomenon and even the face of Martial Arts film.
Jackie Chan has created a legacy that is impossible to match, and one commendable thing about his films was that there were no curses in his films. Hence, the Rush Hour actor criticized Chelsea Handler for using dirty words in her interview, and he was surprised because while directing films and TV Series, they have to follow certain regulations that the host was not following.
Jackie Chan Was Surprised By Chelsea Handler’s Use of Language In An Interview
Throughout his prolific career, Jackie Chan has done a series of films where he has done thousands of death-defying stunts, but one thing that he has not done is using curse words in his films to entertain his audience. With over 60 years of experience in acting and directing, he was astounded when he listened to Chelsea Handler’s language as she used too many dirty words without any hesitation.
The Vanguard actor appeared as a guest on Netflix’s Chelsea which was hosted by Chelsea Handler, and was surprised at the indecency of her language. Handler asked her if she could feel the actor’s abs and she was fascinated that the 69-year-old actor is still having such a great physique and how an “older man keeps their sh*t together.” Chan was perplexed at how she could use such words without facing any consequences.
“Why-why you can say so many dirty word in this show. I don’t know, I watch the show, wow-wow. When we making a film, when we say something, oh no you can not say that even the TV [imitating censored sounds], right? I don’t know, then I said you are different, you have a license?”
The question perplexed the host, but she came up with a hilarious answer, as she replied,
“No, you just get something from the government and they allow you to speak in a different way here. No-no, it’s Netflix, you can do whatever the f**k you want.”
Jackie Chan’s question resulted in a hilarious segment in the interview, as he was not even trying to insult Chelsea Handler. Instead, he was expecting some verbal decency but she went ahead and uttered an even dirtier word, which shows the different ideologies of Asian and Western cultures.
Jackie Chan Proves A Director Wrong With His Police Story 1
The Kung Fu Panda actor gave his first public speech at the Sydney Opera House via SOH Talks & Ideas Archive YouTube Channel. During the Q&A session, the host mentioned how the internet wants to know, “Which film that you have starred in was the most memorable?” Without much thought, Jackie Chan answered, “Police Story 1,” and gave the reason for it.
“Police Story 1. Police Story, because I wanted to prove that’s a director to make Protector. Did you see the movie Protector? And at that time, how can I becoming a New York cop? I speak very poor English, and a Mandarin-born Chinese, New York cop. Then, that comes into my acting. That come into my English, and even we stay, we speaking. I don’t know people, what they speak? When is my turn?”
“So the dialogue coach have to lay down under like this, touch my leg. First touch is smiling. No, welcome to New York. Cut! [imitates American accent] Welcome to New York. Welcome to New York. Very good, Jackie! You speak very good English. When I do the action, okay, okay. No. For me, I’m concentrating on the action. I’m not concentrating on English.”
He added,
“So, I said– so this is why I just, ah, I give up. Then, before I left, I tell the director, ‘I show you what I can do. How can I becoming a policeman. Not New York policeman.’ So I go back to Hong Kong. I make Police Story. I want to show this director, I said, ‘That’s what I’m doing.’”
Chan showed James Glickenhaus his true potential as an action actor, as his Police Story 1 was a massive hit, accumulating $113.1 thousand at the box office.
