Strauss Zelnick Also Spoke About the Use of AI in Video Games

At the earnings call, Strauss Zelnick also spoke about the implementation and use of AI in video games saying that he believes that although these could indeed help with the development, he doubts its ability to develop games without human developers. He added that ChatGPT is like a hand calculator and a few decades ago parents thought that calculators would mean children would not need to learn math but that was not the case. Zelnick said,

“The answer is yes, you still have to learn math, turns out, you absolutely have to learn math, but you have a tool that makes it easier to do. And ChatGPT is the same thing.”

Electronic Arts is currently working on AI technology in video games and they have been for some time now. EA announced Project Atlas in 2018 which was an R&D project with around a thousand people working to change how games are made with AI technology and this technology was then used in the Battlefield series.

A game that is believed to be made with the use of AI is a survival zombie game called The Day Before and the developers were criticized for claiming that it was developed by volunteers and tested by unpaid supporters. It was slated to release in March this year but was delayed to November due to what developers call a copyright claim, they later explained that they had planned the delay even before the copyright issue. It remains to be seen if AI tools could deliver a game at par with human developers.
