The producer of the movie, Miramax, wanted to take advantage of their rocking chemistry and wished to cast him as Shakespeare.
Paltrow shared in an interview with Variety,
“At the last minute, Harvey wanted Ben Affleck to take over and play Shakespeare. I said, ‘No, you can’t do that. You have to have an English person.’”
The actor ended up playing the role of Ned Alleyn in the movie.

On Howard Stern’s Sirius XM radio show, Paltrow opened up on her breakup with Bounce co-actor Ben Affleck. The actress shared,
“He was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend,”
Paltrow added that her friends and parents supported her decision to break up with the actor. Stern also asked her about a comment Paltrow had earlier made about her ex,
“He’d be better off dating a Scores stripper.”
Paltrow laughed at her statement and said it was true at the time.
The actress further opened up on Ben Affleck’s marriage with Jennifer Garner after dating Paltrow. Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle fame said,
“Not only is she beautiful [but] she is so warm and, she cooks and is so into her kids. And she’s hilarious . . . I had a girl’s dinner before the summer and she came over. She’s my neighbor. I really like her a lot.”
In one of her Q and A sessions on Instagram, Paltrow shared that she is happy about Affleck’s marriage with Garner.
