Thus, considering Quentin Tarantino’s movies that often featured the bloodiest scenes, the director faced certain issues with his $332M saga.
Recalling one incident from Quentin Tarantino’s bloodiest film – Kill Bill, the director had to choreograph action scenes with gallons of fake blood to achieve the perfect violent sequence for his revenge tale. While it sounded like dedication from the director, Tarantino’s strange demands nearly got Uma Thurman killed in a freak accident.
Quentin Tarantino’s Strange Demand For Blood
While it has always been difficult for visual effects to replicate blood, Quentin Tarantino suffered the most, as he often delivered some of the bloodiest scenes in Hollywood. Constantly including bloody scenes in his movies, the director even turned his brutal revenge film Kill Bill into a $332M saga.
During the ongoing shoots for his 2003 Kill Bill: Volume 1, Quentin Tarantino made a strange demand while choreographing action scenes. Using his old-school movie-making process, the director demanded gallons of fake blood to convey the right level of violence in his film. But, the strange demand was for a particular type of blood.
Considering Kill Bill: Volume 1 has all the bloody scenes, Quentin Tarantino needed it to look like the same blood created 30 years earlier. Explaining his strange demand during an interview with Time, Tarantino stated, “I’m really particular about the blood, so we’re using a mixture depending on the scenes.” He then added, “You have to have this special kind of blood that you only see in Samurai movies.”
Uma Thurman’s Suffered A Freak Accident
Demanding his Kill Bill: Volume 1 bloody scenes to be done “the Chinese way” which only makes sense, Quentin Tarantino even placed a bizarre demand on his film’s actress Uma Thurman. Attempting at a kind of realism, the director allegedly pressured Thurman to drive a rattrap convertible down a curved, sandy road at 40 mph, resulting in a crash.
The on-set accident left Uma Thurman with severe injuries, a concussion, and damaged knees. However, despite Thurman and Tarantino’s dedication that turned the scene into perfection, it never made it to the silver screen. Nonetheless, the incident went public, which caused a great deal of dishonor to the director due to his “malicious intent”.
However, the blonde actress took to her Instagram account to speak in favor of Quentin Tarantino who received heated criticism for his involvement in the incident. She mentioned that the director was “deeply regretful and remains remorseful about this sorry event, and gave me the footage years later so I could expose it and let it see the light of day”.
Eventually, Tarantino’s dedication came to fruition as Kill Bill movies turned into a $332M saga and received praises and accolades.
