It’s been four years since “Solo: A Star Wars Story” bombed at the movie office. However, there’s still potential if you’re hoping to see more of Donald Glover as a young version of Lando Calrissian. The Star Wars expanded universe.

Lucasfilm is busy working on a handful of Disney+ shows set across the Star Wars saga’s history, with several set in The Mandalorian’s post-original trilogy era. Most people have found the period between the prequel and original trilogies to be fascinating, and Disney has shown a similar mindset in the dark years after Order 66. Rogue One and Solo, Disney’s first Star Wars spin-offs, were set within this time period. This year, Obi-Wan Kenobi returned to it but is succumbing to Top Gun: Maverick, as the former movie feels nearly identical to Star Wars: A New Hope in sections. The Andor series will premiere on August 31st, with Season 3 of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka following the subsequent year. Other series, such as The Acolyte and the recently unveiled Skeleton Crew, are still in the works.

The Lando series, starring Donald Glover, was proposed in 2020. Kathleen Kennedy, CEO of Lucasfilm, chatted with CinemaBlend recently at the Star Wars Celebration to provide an explanation on the postponement of the program. She apologized for the delay and explained that Donald Glover is a popular and extremely busy actor, making it impossible to start filming the series. “If we could achieve it tomorrow,” she said, “that would be fantastic”.

“You need to ask Donald. He’s the one that holds all the cards here. But there’s no movement. I will say that honestly. But it’s not for lack of trying. It’s just that he’s a very busy guy. He’s got another series, and I think one other thing, and then he’ll come our way. So patiently waiting,” Kennedy claimed. Despite this, she continues to be hopeful, stating that talks are still progressing.

Donald Glover to feature in Disney+ Lando series.

It’s true that  Glover has a hectic schedule outside of the Star Wars saga. Atlanta’s third season finale premiered earlier this month, and the show’s fourth and final season will air this autumn. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, his Prime Video series, is also in the line. Furthermore,  Lando is developing new tunes under the title Childish Gambino, resulting in a jam-packed schedule with little room for him in the upcoming months. Thus, the chances of this Disney+ series debuting before 2024 are limited, unless Glover’s calendar undergoes any unexpected alterations.
