His death shattered a lot of fans and they even named his favorite location after his name.

Nanami’s death not only affected the fans but also had a huge toll on Jujutsu Kaisen’s protagonist Yuji Itadori. His death angered him so much that he went on a killing spree and killed almost every disfigured human created by Mahito and launched a full attack on Mahito to defeat him and destroy him for killing Namani.

Although Nanami’s death was a sad instance for Jujutsu Kaisen, a theory makes his death even sadder. According to the theory Nanami’s binding vow called “Overtime” was developed from his daily life, which at one point he hated, and because of that he couldn’t give it his 100%, thus resulting in his death.

Kento Nanami’s Overtime Binding Vow

After graduating from Jujutsu High, Nanami first went to work as a salaryman, but he eventually came back to resume her role as a jujutsu sorcerer. Nanami was a grade 1 Jujutsu High sorcerer who mostly worked out of the Tokyo campus. Although he possessed several skills, his Overtime Binding vow was one of his most crucial techniques.

As stipulated in his Overtime Binding Vow, Nanami is only able to use a certain quantity of cursed energy while he is officially working for Jujutsu High. Nanami’s cursed energy grows significantly and gives him an increase in combat capability whenever he works over his regular shift and begins working overtime.

Nanami reduces the amount of his cursed energy to between 80 and 90 percent while going about his daily tasks. Nanami uses 110–120% of his maximum power when he uses Overtime. While Nanami is capable of intentionally breaking the promise and consuming all of his cursed energy at any given moment, doing so would only result in a 1% gain when using Overtime.

Theory Suggests Nanami’s Overtime Ability Makes His Death Sadder

According to a Jujutsu Kaisen theory, Nanami’s Overtime ability is based on his real life. According to a Jujutsu Kaisen notion, Nanami’s Overtime ability is founded on his real-life experiences. Nanami’s dislike of his real day work may be the source of his Overtime ability. Nanami revealed during one of the Jujutsu Kaisen episodes, while working his regular job, that he was only doing it because money is the only constant in life.

Even he knows he detests the method he is going about getting there, though. Nanami is known to put in more hours at work to get paid more, and he is not giving his all during the workday. Additionally, he is a jujutsu sorcerer. So technically, he works two jobs. Additionally, he is nearly burned out from overwork in both.

This might have served as the inspiration for his Overtime Binding Vow. For these reasons, he was unable to offer his all in both positions. It is much more depressing because he developed a cursed technique as motivation to make his body exert more effort.
