Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a planned trilogy of games aiming at remaking the Final Fantasy 7 games. After the first game was released in 2020, the second one named, ‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth‘ followed on February 29, 2024.

And now the fans are in anticipation of the third and final game of the trilogy. Recent reports suggest that the development of the next game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy could possibly be further than expected.

Recently, the developers were seen discussing more about the series in an interview, where they spilled a lot of tea on the upcoming project.

The third game has been in development since 2022

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth director Tetsuya Nomura, says they are hard at work with the third installment of the trilogy. Furthermore, the scenario writer Kazushige Nojima also reiterated that he is already working on the next game.

Additionally, composer Nobuo Uematsu was repeatedly asked if he would return to work on the third part,

“Not that we’ve made it official yet, but I’d like to believe you’re a lock for the next title. You’ll do it, right?”

To this, he said he would be “honored” to come back and work on the music for the finale. However, he also revealed that previously he feared that he didn’t have the “strength” for another game.

In addition to these comments, the key developers also spoke about other topics like the original release, the spin-offs, as well as the future of the series. And when the topic of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 came up, they did not shy away from revealing that the work on the sequel was already going on.

Nomura even went on to reveal that the work on the third part had started way back in 2022. However, back then it was in the very early stages of drafting most probably because it had just a few members working on it then.

Besides, Nomura also revealed how the upcoming project had taken a toll on him. Talking about how the project involved an intense workload, he says that the only thing he was looking forward to was it all being over. He also confirmed that at first, he was anxious about taking up the project as well.

He said,

“Years ago, during the planning phase, I knew the kind of commitment a project like this would require. Part of me didn’t want to do it. Once we got started, there was no throwing in the towel halfway through. You can’t leave things on a cliffhanger. You’re stuck now. […] At least now, we’re finally past the midway point.”

Talking about the future of the series, he says,

Personally, I want to be done with this absolute marathon of projects.”

It remains to be seen when the third part of the trilogy finally comes out and how the trilogy will come to an end. Developer Square Enix is yet to reveal anything about the release. Nonetheless, considering that the second part is also a massive one and that it has just hit the shelves, fans may have to wait some more years for the third part.
