Suits has become one of the most well-performing series in recent times. This wasn’t always the case as it did not achieve much success during its run, having a smaller, but dedicated percentage of viewers. This drastically changed in the past years, and the streaming giant, Netflix, is to thank for it. The series very quickly became one of the best-doing shows on the platform, gaining, not only a lot of recognition but immense profit for the streaming service as well.
It would seem, however, that Netflix could have made a lot more money with this series. The co-CEO of the streaming service recently revealed that they had the opportunity to make a spinoff of Suits, which could have earned them a lot of profit now. However, they rejected it, and someone else got the opportunity.
Suits And Its Spin-off
Though Suits has become one of the biggest series of all time when it comes to how many people have watched it, it was always as profitable. Despite this, the creator of the series, Aaron Korsh was very interested in getting a spin-off series made following characters from this universe. According to IndieWire, the co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, revealed exactly this.
“For the last several years, the guy that created ‘Suits’ had a spinoff show that he was trying to sell everywhere in town. Everybody passed, including us, and including [NBCUniversal], and now they’re making it,
He confess that for the last many years, Korsh had been going around to many different studios and as many different people as he could, trying to get the spin-off series made. This list of people had many big names, including Netflix itself. However, he was rejected by everyone.
Netflix Regrets This Decision
Ted Sarandos revealed that among these names, along with Netflix, was NBCUniversal, who also ended up rejecting Aaron Korsh’s pitch. Table’s turned very quickly after the series started becoming very popular on Netflix. The series was extremely profitable and successful, not only when it comes to money, but also having a huge audience, so making a spin-off show made sense now.
“There’s a huge, newer interest in ‘Suits.’ And I would probably argue that next year you’ll probably see a bunch of lawyer shows.” Said Sarandos
However, before Netflix could jump on this wagon, NBCUniversal beat them to it. They are now responsible for developing this series, which fans are extremely excited about. While the news of this is amazing for the audiences, it would seem that Netflix regretted Korsh’s proposal in the first place.
