Loki season two has been the talk of the town. With the first part of the series setting up a majority of the fourth and fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as introducing the much anticipated big bad, Kang the Conqueror, the second season of this series has been one of the most anticipated releases in recent times of the franchise. Not only is the series bringing back past characters, with Tom Hiddleston in the beloved role of Loki, along with Sophia Di Martino, Owen Wilson, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, as well as adding new actors to its cast, with the most notable being the addition of Ke Huy Quan.
Playing the role of Ouroboros, he has certainly been one of the most talked about actors in the past year. This mainly had to do with his work in the blockbuster film, Everything Everywhere All at Once, the film that helped him win the Academy Award in the category of Best Supporting Actor. Recently, it was revealed that the process of him signing onto Loki was so tedious that Kevin Feige himself had to intervene and ask him to join.
Loki’s Producer Knew That They Had To Act Fast
Kevin Wright, the producer of Loki, recently talked to Gizmodo about the entire process of casting Ke Huy Quan in the role of Ouroboros and the process of his gaining fame because of Everything Everywhere All at Once during the production of the series. He started by stating that the timing of how everything happened was crazy for him, as the film started to gain immense traction during the production of the series and the actor ended up winning his Academy Award when the show went into post-production.
“The buzz was picking up on ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ — that was happening as we were shooting — and then when we were in post-production, he had won an Academy Award,” Wright told the outlet, adding, “The timing was crazy.” he then added, “It was a week away from him about being everywhere,” Wright shared Finn told him, “I think you should cast Ke, I think he’s perfect for this. And if you don’t make an offer by Monday, you’re probably going to lose the chance, because I think he’s about to blow up in a very big way.”
He then talked about when the actor was cast in the role. The time was just before the film blew up, a week to be precise, and the casting director of the series, Sarah Finn was aware that very soon, the actor would be offered a huge number of opportunities and projects. It was here that Wright was told by her that if they did not give Quan an offer soon, they would lose the chance for him to play a role in the series completely.
Kevin Feige Needed Ke Huy Quan To Be A Part Of Loki
Eric Martin, the writer of Loki, ended up telling The New York Times, how Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios felt about the entire situation. He explained that Feige had seen Ke Huy Quan in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and he became obsessed with the idea of him playing the role of Ouroboros. He mentioned to Martin that he needed the actor to play this role as Feige could not imagine someone else playing this character.
“He saw him in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and Kevin fell in love with O.B. on the page, and I think he just saw him and then he’s like, ‘This is our O.B. He’ll just step right in and be perfect for this.'” they went on, “Kevin Feige gave him a call and said, ‘Ke, we really want you to do this. Will you join us in London and start making this?’ Very quickly afterward, he was on a plane to London to start building this.”
According to Kevin Wright, the president of Marvel Studios ended up talking to the actor himself and told him that they really wanted him to portray this role, asking Quan if he would be interested in being a part of the series. Soon after this, the actor became a part of the project and started filming.
