Tom Cruise is one of the most profitable and successful actors in Hollywood but behind all that success, money, and fame lies a very controversial figure. He is no doubt a very generous, down-to-earth, and caring human being, but there have been more than a handful of incidents that left the fans and public stuck in a daze.
Among one of his most controversial and problematic moments was his interview taken back in 2005. In the now-resurfaced interview, the Mission Impossible star went too ballistic on the interviewer when he was asked repeated questions about his equation and life with his ex, Nicole Kidman.

That One Controversial Tom Cruise Interview From 2005
Tom Cruise is one of the most incredible actors in the whole wide world thanks to his extreme dedication to the craft, which often involves putting his life on the line for the sake of the story, multiple times. While his dedication is well known, another thing he is quite famous for is his often indescribable and surprisingly erratic behavior (clue that one Oprah Winfrey interview).
While there are numerous problematic moments of his spewed across the internet, one interview of his from 2005 on 60 Minutes Australia has been making rounds again on the internet. In conversation with journalist Peter Overton, Cruise was asked a series of questions about his ex-wife Nicole Kidman and how he felt about her post their divorce.
“Listen, here’s the thing, Peter. You’re stepping over a line now.. you know you are.”
“You want to know. Take responsibility for what you want to know. Don’t say what other people, this is a conversation that I’m having with you right now. Okay so, just put your manners back in.”
Fans Have Mixed Reactions Towards Tom Cruise’s Problematic Interview
This one interview from 2005 wasn’t the only time Tom Cruise displayed problematic behavior for there have been numerous times that fans took an offense to the actor (see Business Insider). However, when this certain clip from the interview went viral, fans had mixed reactions to it.
While certain fans on the internet praised the actor for keeping his cool and making his boundaries known, others weren’t too kind but instead called him out for being rude and unprofessional. Here are some of the fan reactions from the internet:
Not terrifying at all. probably had clear limits on what to discuss and this reported violated it. s

Peter was not wrong. Why did Tom go there then? Reporters are in fact 'nosey.' However, Peter was respectful. Tom could have said 'No comment' or that they support each other in co-parenting and their careers. That is the Scientology coming out to bash Peter…unnecessary.

I don’t think there was ANYTHING wrong with how @TomCruise reacted here. Journalists are always crossing lines & I think Tom was calm & polite about it. Could have walked out?! Fuck journalists! He was more than likely there to do promo yet this guys asks him about divorce? 💩💩

😂 Tom’s Scientology training coming out making him a nut. It was an entirely innocent question. Amazing how people see this as Tom being respectful when all the interviewer asked was if he & Nicole had a good relationship now, Tom felt the need to belittle the interviewer.

Watched an old 60 minutes interview with Tom Cruise and never knew he was such an a–hole!

Yeah, the question begged an answer, that the sensitivity of the situation precluded any honest or open reply, other than an affirmative. Which Tom had already given. Nicely handled.

While the controversy over the interview keeps raging on every few years or so, there is no denying that Tom Cruise has remained quite tight-lipped regarding his personal life, and trying to get such details out of him is as hard as extracting water from a stone.
