With the release of A Quiet Place: Day One, fans have been giving the film tons of love and praise from around the world. The director of the film revealed that his obsession with food started with Brad Pitt in Oceans Eleven!

Pizza Is Scarce In A Quiet Place: Day One

Without giving anything away about the plot of the film, we just state that A Quiet Place: Day One showcases a pizza in one of the scenes in the film. Due to the killer aliens roaming New York, food is scarce, and having a slice of a pizza wouldn’t hurt anybody.

But it’s not just about the pizza. Director Michael Sarnoski doesn’t have a plethora of movies to his name as A Quiet Place: Day One is only his second feature film.

The director worked with Nicolas Cage in the 2021 film Pig (the one where Nic Cage searches for his kidnapped pig). Speaking in an interview with SlashFilm, Michael Sarnoski revealed that there’s a very particular reason why he uses animals and actors to eat food throughout his films.

As a Midwestern boy, I love some good food. I mean, I think it’s related to also why I love having animals in movies. I think there’s something that I just find so relatable about when you point a camera at an animal or when you point a camera at an actor eating food, on a certain level, you know that you can’t be lying.

He further continued,

Like, the audience knows that’s an animal and they’re going to do what animals do. And we never used, like, a CG cat in this movie for that reason — you always want to feel like there’s a reality to that which can’t be faked.

However, that’s not all. When probed about it further, the director revealed that when he was in his childhood years, he saw a Brad Pitt movie where Pitt was constantly snacking on something or the other.

Well, Pitt is an actor who looks good while eating anything in his movies. From smoking cigarettes in Fight Club to munching on a burger in Ocean’s Eleven, Sarnoski revealed that the 2001 film was an inspiration for his idea!

Brad Pitt Eating Was Michael Sarnoski’s Inspiration!

It was the year 2001 when director Steven Soderbergh released a heist film starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and, more. Throughout the film, Brad Pitt can be seen eating and munching on several snacks.

As Michael Sarnoski’s interview continued, the director revealed that he was inspired by watching Brad Pitt eat in Ocean’s Eleven. Because he was constantly munching something, Sarnoski felt that there was little trust and realism brought to the audience.

It’s the same with watching people eat. There’s something that, I remember, even as a kid, I think it was in the ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ movie, when you’re watching Brad Pitt just eat tons of food the whole time, and you’re just like, ‘What is this feeling?’ There’s just something that you can’t — that’s just real.

He further continued,

He’s just eating a hamburger. You’re always trying to sell reality in movies, but something about food and animals, you just don’t second-guess it because there’s something so fundamental about that.

Well, whatever food and animal that Sarnoski used seems to be working as A Quiet Place: Day One received a rating of 6.9/10 on IMDB and a whopping 85% on Rotten Tomatoes upon release.
