Dave Filoni has worked within Lucasfilm, particularly on the Star Wars franchise for several years. Having trained under franchise creator George Lucas, Filoni has gained plenty of experience crafting stories in the galaxy far, far away, that most filmmakers might envy.

During an interview. Lucasfilm’s CG supervisor Joel Aron revealed Filoni’s philosophy for telling stories in the Star Wars universe. Aron’s comment about Filoni’s work on the Clone Wars animated series proves why he is arguably the best candidate to shape the franchise’s future.
Lucasfilm CG Supervisor Joel Aron Revealed Dave Filoni’s Simple Star Wars Philosophy
Dave Filoni first joined Lucasfilm to work on the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which George Lucas created. Filoni essentially served as a showrunner during the show’s production, with Joel Aron serving as the CG supervisor.

During an interview published in Star Wars Insider Magazine Issue #120, Aron spoke very highly of his collaboration with Filoni, praising the showrunner for his approach to storytelling.
You’ve got that freedom to work creatively through the process of developing the effects, or even coming up with the lighting scheme of an episode.
Aron made the above statement, underlining the process he followed while working with Filoni. He revealed that the two would often brainstorm about certain scenes in the former’s office.
However, by the time their brainstorming session ended, Aron would have a challenging idea at hand to execute. Hence, from Aron’s words, it is evident that Filoni’s simple philosophy was to give his collaborators creative freedom to bring out the best in them.
Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Philosophy Makes Him the Ideal Candidate to Become Kevin Feige of Star Wars
After working on the Clone Wars animated series, Filoni created other shows such as Star Wars Rebels and Ahsoka, while also working on The Mandalorian. He was eventually promoted to the position of Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm.

However, the Star Wars franchise overall has seen a steep decline in quality in recent times. Part of the problem has been Lucasfilm’s agenda-driven approach to storytelling and overall influence on the filmmakers, which most likely affects their vision, and ultimately the final product.
In contrast, Filoni’s approach of providing creative freedom to his collaborators could work wonders for the franchise. Therefore, Filoni is an ideal candidate to lead Lucasfilm, taking a position similar to that of Kevin Feige, who built the vastly successful MCU.
Filoni’s collaboration with Jon Favreau has produced some of the most beloved episodes of The Mandalorian, proving that the producer works well in tandem with a good filmmaker. However, by himself, Filoni can produce widely divisive results such as in Ahsoka season 1. Hence, Filoni’s biggest strength is arguably his collaborations, which provide creative freedom to his partners.
