The American sitcom Seinfeld, created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, starred an ensemble cast, with the latter embodying a fictionalized version of himself. The NBC show, which ran for nine seasons, distinguished itself from other sitcoms at the time. Many consider its influence to have defined the 1990s and shaped a significant portion of the era’s popular culture. The latter is evidenced by how many catchphrases it has popularized!

With that in mind, it’s undeniable that the sitcom’s impact has been enormous. And when an endeavor becomes a cultural phenomenon, it ought to have birthed fans from all walks of life. Former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher is among such devoted enthusiasts of the show. The acclaimed guitarist and singer-songwriter is famed for his reputation of seemingly hating everyone and everything. Seinfeld is one thing he does adore, though.
The performer once revealed to Rolling Stone that his now-estranged wife hadn’t watched the show when they first met. Due to this, their relationship was nearly in jeopardy, which prompted Gallagher to establish a crucial stipulation!
Former Oasis Frontman Noel Gallagher On Loving Seinfeld
In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, singer-songwriter and former Oasis member Noel Gallagher shared his love for Jerry Seinfeld’s uber-popular NBC sitcom. When asked what his favorite TV shows are, the artist responded, “I still can’t get enough of Seinfeld. It’s still the best thing that’s ever been filmed.” Affirming how the show serves as a reminder of the ’90s—in his words, of the “good times”—Gallagher believed that he must have been the only person in England watching the show.
Following was his statement:
“I was the only person in England who was watching it! That’s a fact. Certainly, the only person in Manchester who watched it. I identify with Jerry.”
Recollecting the time he first met his now-estranged wife, the former lead guitarist of Oasis divulged how she hadn’t seen the sitcom at the time. Reckoning it a must-watch show (and potentially the first step in sustaining their relationship), Noel Gallagher set down a significant stipulation, stating the following to her:
“When I met my wife 15 years ago, she’d never seen it, and I was like, “If we’re going to be together, you’ve got to be into this sh–t because this is important.” Luckily, she f–kin’ loves it.”
Fortunately, the singer’s former spouse seemed to share his sentiments. She, too, came to adore the famous sitcom. In another anecdote shared by the famed guitarist, we learned of the day his dreams of meeting Jerry Seinfeld came true! In what ended up being an unforgettable moment, Noel Gallagher felt like he had been transported into the world of his favorite sitcom.
The Time Noel Gallagher Met Jerry Seinfeld
Speaking to Rolling Stone on a separate occasion, the singer-songwriter elaborated on the time he met his comedy idol, Jerry Seinfeld. This must have been one of the most memorable times in the former Oasis member’s life as a die-hard Seinfeld fan. As he retold the incident, he said that Sara MacDonald, his estranged wife, had planned a trip to New York and arranged the rendezvous to surprise Gallagher for his birthday.
In New York, he was taken to the renowned stand-up comedian’s show, which marked Noel Gallagher’s first time seeing Jerry Seinfeld perform live. “I’ve never seen him [perform]. The funniest thing ever, one of the greatest nights. I’m crying, laughing. It’s unbelievable.” Another surprise awaited the musician after the performance. His then-wife informed him that they would be meeting the Seinfeld actor.

Following was Noel Gallagher‘s recollection of the awkwardly hilarious meeting:
“I’m in this lift with Sara … Jerry Seinfeld comes in and says, ‘Hey,’ I’m like, ‘No f–king way.’ He went, ‘Great to see ya.’ And his wife went, ‘Jerry, this is the guy from London. It’s his birthday! I told you!’ Jerry’s going, ‘I don’t think you did.’ She goes, ‘Jerry, I told you – it’s his birthday!’ He was going, ‘No, you didn’t tell me.'”
This back-and-forth was so amusing to Gallagher that he ended up exclaiming to his former spouse:
“I said to Sara, ‘We’re in a scene from Seinfeld! It’s f–king unbelievable.'”
According to Gallagher, Seinfeld spent 45 minutes “pretending to know” who the singer was. He believed that the comedian had no clue. But did this revelation bother the former Oasis frontman? “I didn’t f–king care,” affirmed Gallagher.
Simply put, he was overjoyed to have gotten the opportunity to hang out with Jerry Seinfeld. As a fan of the latter’s sitcom, Noel Gallagher’s dreams had come true, and that’s all that mattered.
