Being Zack Snyder is not easy as it would be beyond imagination for almost anyone to go through what the directors have experienced— primarily loss. Yet the director has been making his prominence and standing still.
It is not just the loss that loathes up on the horizon of Snyder’s world— customized to chase the desired peace amid all the turmoil, yet often hurdled by time. He has been the victim of severe internet trolls and his DCU exit was just the extension of his struggle to cope with what life had to offer.
Zack Snyder on Autumn’s Death And DCU Exit
Death is cruel, and Zack Snyder has mourned the death of his Jesus-like brother with long hair, Sam, 19, when Snyder was just 13. Sam’s death “sent me deeper into my love for movies—as an escape, as a way to deal with it,” Snyder told Men’s Health. However, Snyder’s life was far from being at peace. While he was working on DC’s Justice League, he was struck with another blow. His daughter— from his first marriage with Denise Snyder— Autumn, 20, committed suicide.
“I was at a place after Autumn and after Justice League where I just kind of felt like there needed to be a reassessment of the why of everything,” Snyder told Men’s Health.
Snyder wanted to keep her death away from the gossip while he was neck-deep in the production of Justice League. He and his wife Deborah Snyder did their best to save the film but he was too torn and divested for it. Eventually, Joss Whedon took over the project and there was a huge uproar among fans demanding Snyder back.
Zack Snyder And Justice League
Snyderverse in DC has been sort of a cult that engrossed many loyal fans always in for the director’s DCU cuts. Of course, any DC fan would recognize that there is always a special touch to Snyder’s cuts. Soon, the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut would trend on socials demanding the studio to release Snyder’s original version of the movie. To that, Snyder said:
“I felt like my relationship with the fans is really one-way. I give, I deliver, and I share with them ideas that I have. I am 100 percent against anyone threatening and doing anything to bully. That’s not cool, but that’s also obvious,” (via Men’s Health).
Eventually, the studio gave the director $70 million to complete his movie. Snyder filmed the remaining sequences during the pandemic. Zack Snyder’s Justice League came to life and debuted on (HBO) Max in 2021 with 4 hours and 2 minutes of runtime.
