During the interview, he also talked about his 2021 DC film, saying that it was “sort of quintessential, insane journey to a director’s cut.” He further said,

“And, you know, I don’t know that that story is ever really going to be told in its entirety, but it’s a microcosm for like kind of what I was able to achieve with this film, but with everyone’s eyes wide open and everyone really like kind of into it.”

The Watchmen director expressed uncertainty about whether the full story will ever be told. However, he takes the 2021 movie as one of the smaller steps in achieving creative freedom for his future projects, and he is carrying the same sentiment in his latest film, Rebel Moon.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Movies Set to Get Their Director’s Cut

Zack Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi saga, Rebel Moon, is set to premiere on Netflix in December 2023. The upcoming film and its sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two, will also have an R-rated version on the streaming platform. However, unlike the lengthy process that followed the 2021 DC film, the director has shared that the idea was brought up by the streamer itself.

“And I think what happened with in my conversation with Netflix, they were always like, ‘would there be any way to like go back to your original sort of subversive R-rated version?”

He also shared that it was the first time he had been able to plan a movie along with its director’s cut, stating that there were no arguments where he would suggest at least having the opportunity to release it on DVD. “It was us going together,” he told the outlet.
