The 2013 DC film Man of Steel had everyone talking even before it hit theatres. While some were quite impressed with Zack Snyder’s work, others had issues with some specific scenes and characters in the film. One of these also included Superman’s father, Jonathan Kent, portrayed by Kevin Costner. Fans pointed out how the character was not comic-accurate, and that the film altered his appearance.
People also pointed out some other controversial scenes from the film. Despite all that, the film became one of the best DC films and established Henry Cavill as a fan favorite Superman. And the latest season of CW’s Superman & Lois featured a scene inspired by one of the scenes from the 2013 action-adventure film.
Superman & Lois Featured a Scene Inspired by Man of Steel
The third and final season of CW’s Superman & Lois premiered earlier this month. The series focuses on Clark Kent, aka Superman, managing his life as a superhero and as a family man. He is married to world-renowned journalist Lois Lane and has two sons, Jonathan and Jordan.
Unlike Jordon, Jonathan did not inherit his father’s superpowers. Season 3 comes with a challenge to Superman as he starts training his son, Jordon, to harness his superpowers. And one of the scenarios from the premiere episode of the third season seemed inspired by one of the scenes between Jonathan Kent and Clark Kent from the 2013 film.
Clark Kent, portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin in the CW series, tells his son Jordon to go back home after he comes across a Kryptonian A.I. On his way home, Jordon spots a collapsing building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and tries to prevent the disaster.
When his father becomes aware of the same, he comes to help him. However, he also gives some tough advice by scolding him that he could have exposed his super abilities publicly. The scene is similar to when Jonathan Kent advises Clark to keep his powers hidden in Man of Steel after he rescues a school bus.
DC Proving Jonathan Kent Right With The Flash’s Kara
Both scenes portray a father’s concern for his son, who could be troubled if his superpower abilities were exposed to the world. However, the fatherly concern and Jonathan Kent’s advice gave rise to controversies due to his heartless response.
Jonathan Kent also stopped Clark from saving him from the tornado. And seems like he did have a point for being concerned about revealing his son’s real identity. The trailer of the upcoming DC film, The Flash, shows Batman and the Flash breaking Kara out of a Russian prison, indicating that somehow Jonathan Kent’s concern was valid.
The 2013 film features him telling Clark that he was worried that government would come looking for him after he and his wife found him in a spaceship. They knew if their son’s real identity was exposed to the world, things would not be too pleasing for him.
He could end up being caged and would be nothing more than a lab rat to be weaponized. And Kara, aka Supergirl’s, story from The Flash gives a view at what could have happened to Clark if his abilities were exposed to the world.
