DC Comics and Warner Bros have a few projects in the works at the moment, although many of them are revealed by the press before they go into their production stage. Earlier, reports have indicated that Supergirl and Batgirl movies were also underworks, and now it seems like they’re working on another female hero.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros is focussing on a film on Zatanna, the Backwards-speaking magician and a Justice League member. As per the report, Warner Bros continue to talk about the female-centric superhero films, while long-promised and anticipated projects like Man of Steel 2 and The Flash are on hold.
It’s still not clear if a film on Zatanna is actually “under development” or if the Warner Bros execs are just kicking around the possibility. Various DC projects have already been reported in the past few years, but very few of them have actually come to life.
So far, we’ve heard rumours of movies featuring Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps, Nightwing, Deathstroke, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Cyborg, Justice League Dark, a Joker/Harley Quinn film and more. None one of these has since “escalated” beyond development phase although we’ve had a few names attached to the projects.
While Warner Bros might be exploring future possibilities, try to seem to be scaling down their output of superhero films based on DC comics.
Shazam and Joker origin film will release next year while Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey will hit the theatres in 2020.
