Zendaya plays the role of Spider-Man’s girlfriend MJ in the MCU and was last seen in the MCU reprising her role as the snarky teenager in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Zendaya’s real-life romantic interest is actor Tom Holland, who plays the role of Spider-Man in the MCU himself. Now, it seems like the Marvel colors have culminated in pushing the actress to superstardom across genres.

Zendaya to poach Cleopatra’s role from Gal Gadot?

Zendaya worked with Denis Villeneuve last on Dune (2021), the science fiction epic film that generated a lot of praise and received universal critical acclaim for its direction, screenplay, visual effects, and acting roles. There is definitive talk of a sequel to the movie coming up featuring Zendaya and under the directorial genius of Villeneuve.

Zendaya’s success with Dune, the MCU, and several other projects seem to have held her in good stead to play the lead in the historical drama Cleopatra, which is scheduled to be released sometime in 2023 and is to be directed by Villeneuve. Jeff Sneider spoke about some rumors he had heard about Zendaya taking over to play the role of the ancient Egyptian queen, which was earlier played by Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.

Zendaya’s career has really taken off since she started featuring in the MCU as MJ, Peter Parker’s witty teenage girlfriend. She has since been featured in a lot of independent projects such as Dune, while her biggest commercial success as a musician came with her Zac Efron collaboration in “Rewrite the Stars”, in the musical The Greatest Showman (2017).

Zendaya was featured in the teenage drama Euphoria (2019-present) which played a major role in displaying her true repertoire of skills as a leading actress in a series. Her performance helped her become the youngest recipient of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. With the rumored role as the lead on Cleopatra, Zendaya’s stock is only expected to go through the roof in days to come.
