With The Flash movie set to erase the old DCEU in order to set the stage for the new one, not everyone has been intrigued by this plan, especially Zack Snyder fans. Although the future of Snyder’s vision has been sidelined with Gunn and Safran at the helm, the BVS director doesn’t seem to be too worried and recently spoke about his ambitions for his scrapped universe.

Zack Snyder considered making Wonder Woman Half-Kryptonian

Ever since the inception of DCEU, it’s apparent that Zack Snyder was approaching a more grounded and dark theme for his cinematic universe. However, following his initial plans for the DCEU, it seems that making Superman a dark and more brooding character would have been the least of his concerns if his original ideas were implemented. According to Snyder, they initially had plans about making Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman half-Kryptonian and showcasing the Gods in DCEU as descendants of ancient Kryptonians. He explained the scrapped idea by stating,

“It’s this whole thing with Ares and Zeus… [We considered how] Zeus could possibly be a Kryptonian. So, that Wonder Woman’s powers…you can sort of see where that’s going. Because the whole thing of whether or not magic or gods… There’s a version of where you’re like, ‘That’s cool, I guess.’ But then there’s also more the scientific aspect… ‘Where do gods come from? What is that about?’ We had played around with that quite a bit.”

Despite his ambitious plans, these were eventually scrapped and we ended up receiving a more truthful adaptation of the character, which became one of the most critically acclaimed movies of DCEU. Although the idea sounds right on paper and would fit Snyder’s narrative for DCEU, cutting off the magical aspect of the DC universe would have been a big turn-off for fans. But even though his version of the DCEU is set to be scrapped, Snyder doesn’t seem to mind the new regime.

Zack Snyder is grateful for being able to tell his Superman story

Even though his vision of crafting a five-film arc story for the DCEU seems to be over, Zack Snyder doesn’t seem to hold any grudge against James Gunn‘s new regime and his plans for the DC universe. When asked about his viewpoints regarding Gunn’s upcoming plans for Superman, the director expressed that he is happy for him and was grateful for being allowed to share his Superman story. He said,

“We all know what’s going to happen. There’ll be another Superman and Batman origin film. And even in the one that’s being talked about right now, they’ll be one after that. It is a cyclical thing. It’s like some sort of Matrix universe… I’m happy to be the third in the series of 1,000.”

Although Snyder wasn’t able to fully capture the essence of the characters from Comic books, he did bring something new to the table and his contribution to the comic book realm cannot be neglected.
