Zoë Saldaña On Playing Sigourney Weaver’s Mother In Avatar 2

Thirteen years after his magnum opus Avatar, James Cameron came back with a spectacle that was even bigger and more powerful. Avatar: The Way Of Water saw Sam Worthington’s Jake and Zoë Saldaña‘s Neytiri sharing a new life and nurturing a family. One of the interesting features of the plot involved bringing back Sigourney Weaver’s character from the first film as the couple’s adopted daughter, Kiri.

Saldaña in an interview with Empire, revealed that she was extremely grateful to have been chosen by the director for this epic saga. The icing on the cake though, was the manner in which Cameron incorporated Weaver’s character to play her daughter through a masterful use of technology. Elaborating on this feeling, the actor said,

“It’s a dream come true. It’s not even a dream come true. I would have never dreamt in my wildest dreams thought I would be playing some kind of maternal figure in any role that Sigourney Weaver would have been playing, and yet James Cameron provided us the setting and the technology, and the story for us to be able to stretch that far.”

Saldaña’s powerful presence and performance coupled with Cameron’s genius vision ensured that Avatar 2 became a bonafide box office blockbuster.

Star Trek (2009) can be rented on Apple TV.
