Director James Cameron had stated in January that he was done with Avatar 3 and that the movie was in the post-production stage of development. This turned out to be a lie however as actress Zoë Saldaña revealed during her talk with Canal+ at the Oscars 2023. In her statements, Saldaña claimed that she will be returning back to Avatar 3 this summer to “finish that up”.

“Well, we’re here for two, celebrating two. I hope it makes best picture. And ‘Avatar 3’, we’re going to go back this summer and finish that up. Because, allegedly, that’s coming out in a year.”

The actress further admitted that the movie will indeed be released in a year since previously it was rumored for a December 2024 release date. As for the other movies planned, director James Cameron revealed that he has it all figured out.

The director once again addressed the public that the first act of Avatar 4 had also been completed in January of 2023. With Oona Chaplin helming the movie as Varang, the leader of the Na’vi fire tribe, and Zoë Saldaña reprising her role as Neytiri, Avatar 3 is currently rumored for a release date of 20th December 2024 in theaters across the U.S.

Avatar: The Way of Water, after a good run at the global box office, is available to watch on select theater screens across the world.
