Zack Snyder’s DCU tenure can be best described as an ambitious effort cut short due to the very divisive reception of his films. While Snyder believed he was pushing the boundaries with the storytelling and doing something new with the characters, it did not satisfy fans. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did little to excite core DC fans.

One of the most infamous scenes from the latter was the Martha scene, where Superman tells Batman to save his adoptive mother before he kills him. The scene has become the butt of jokes over the years, and now X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo is the latest to poke fun at the memefied scene.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice pitted Superman and Batman against each other ideologically, leading to their climactic battle towards the end of the film. Zack Snyder wanted to bring a sense of relatability and connection to these two drastically different characters by implementing the fact that both their mothers’ name is Martha.

The scene has been ridiculed and mocked due to its goofy nature and has been memefied over the years. Now, Beau DeMayo is poking fun at the material, associating it with his X-Men ’97 show. On X, he put up a hilarious post claiming that Bastion’s mother’s name is Martha. He did clarify that he was joking, but fans are loving his hilarious riff on the infamous scene. DeMayo wrote,

“Bastion’s mother’s name is Martha FYI. Joking!! #xmen97”

Snyder is aware of people making fun of the joke and has addressed how “it is what it is” and “we still love it. And we think it’s really cool” (via CBR). The director seems to have developed some enjoyment in the scene’s memefication, and DeMayo’s latest riff on the scene may chuckle his bone.

The upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to close the chapter on the Fox-Marvel era in addition to being a celebration of it. As such, many characters from the Fox X-Men films are expected to reprise their roles in the film. Famke Janssen, who played Jean Grey in the original X-Men trilogy, was recently asked by Comicbook.com about whether she would return in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Janssen stated that in the past, she didn’t expect to come back as Jean Grey in The Wolverine and Days of Future Past after dying in The Last Stand. While she did not confirm or deny her involvement in Deadpool & Wolverine, she left fans guessing by leaving the possibility open. The actress said,

“I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey. I came back as the Phoenix [The Last Stand], and I came back in flashback scenes in The Wolverine, and then in Days of Future Past. They were all surprises that I never anticipated. I don’t know. I doubt it, but you never know.”

Her co-star James Marsden has also played coy about his involvement in the film, but fans are convinced that they will surely come back as a last hurrah of their X-Men characters. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are the principal leads of the film, but surprises are in store
