Berserk is the one anime and manga that holds great importance both in terms of its story and also the emotions that come with it. Kento Miura’s untimely passing led to an abrupt stop to his entire fanbase. The shocked state they found themselves in also included the legacy he left behind. One that needed completion, closure, and justice at the same time.
Seeing that the anime found its ending with no further updates, there was a majority of fans who were left wanting more. The manga in itself is finding a slow-paced continuation; one that everyone is patient with. However, the same cannot be said for the anime itself. That was until a fan-grouped animation studio took it upon themselves to carry on Miura’s legacy.
Berserk: The Black Swordsman Can Fix a Major Disaster
Berserk has always been regarded for its artistic prowess mixed well with talented storytelling. While seeing such detailed work on paper isn’t something short of amazement, adapting it into an animated platform becomes a skill worth a thousand suns. The 2016 anime adaptation took that risk, adding a mixture of both 2 dimensional as well as 3 dimensional animation.
“Collaborating with amazing artists like Mark Reymer, we aim to create a proper 2D adaptation of the stories that have been neglected of this medium, starting from the beginning,” they stated.
This led to a disaster no one saw coming. Guts’ movements, alongside everyone else’s felt too awkward. Instead of bringing those drawings to life, they further looked inanimated and lifeless. The utter horror that came into being wasn’t one that fans wanted to consider and have thus been waiting for redemption and justice.
Studio Eclypse took the matter into their own hands. The studio is a group of Berserk fans who have gathered together to adapt The Black Swordsman arc. When giving a glimpse of the anime through the teaser trailer, they had quite a bit to say about the same.
The Legacy Lives On
Kentaro Miura’s masterpiece takes a lot of dedication and understanding to adapt. Studio Eclypse has taken the responsibility upon itself. Their main goal was to bring to life the late mangaka’s ideas with honor and justice. They did not want to mess with what had already been made while also creating something new.
This is a fan-made project with the utmost respect to the late Kentaro Miura, Studio Gaga and Hakusensha.”
The upcoming anime, although fan-made, has the full dedication to what Miura left behind. The story is to focus on the first two chapters of the manga. The 1997 anime also adapted the arc but not in as much detail as fans would have liked.
With improved animation, one relying purely on 2-dimensional art, the mistakes made previously by the 2016 anime can be overworked. They can be fixed and Berserk can finally get the justice it truly deserves.
Berserk: The Black Swordsman’s official trailer will be released on 15th May 2024.
