Call of Duty is one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time and has become a staple for local multiplayer sessions. The developers manage to elevate the franchise with new ideas, but the fans are still after the nostalgic feel of playing competitively on the comfort of their couch.

This year’s entry is shaping up to be a great one, however, there are some flaws that raised the eyebrows of the gaming community. Local multiplayer is supported, but not in a way that will appeal to everyone, especially those who are stuck on last-generation hardware.

Call of Duty Will Be Best Played on Next-Gen Hardware

The split screen for the next Call of Duty is a bit of a miss.

The hype and anticipation for this year’s Call of Duty is unlike any other and the trailers have achieved the impressive milestone of being the most-viewed trailer in the entire franchise. Every gamer has their reasons for loving this franchise, and split screen multiplayer is among them. Many are excited to dive into local co-op but the technical limitations of the previous generation will not give the gaming community the best experience, nor will the next-gen versions, for that matter.

Despite being deep in the life cycle of the current generation of gaming, the developers opted to make present titles available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One which caused many to believe that it was holding the franchise back.

The disappointment of the gaming community is quite valid, knowing that this generation is far more powerful and superior but couldn’t match the experience they had from the Xbox 360 era. Perhaps a future update will increase the number of players that will be supported in split screen matches.

The Split Screen Experience for Call of Duty Should Be Much Better

The new Call of Duty game will take up 300GB of space, according to an official store screenshot.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled to be released later this year on various platforms.

The competitive nature of the franchise helped establish its footing in the gaming industry. While earlier titles were far less advanced in terms of visuals, graphics, mechanics, and attention to detail, it is awkward for the developers to take a step back from what they have already achieved before.

The goal is to play with the entire crew while being in close proximity, which is rare nowadays. Players can play separately on different devices from different houses, which is nowhere near the feeling of being able to see each other and communicate freely.

Perhaps the game could not handle that many players and give them the same shared experience. The developers are probably unwilling to sacrifice quality and settled with only two rather than no split screen at all.

Regardless, players who are on either old or new generation machines are on the short end of the stick. Hopefully, the developers could figure out how to increase the number of supported players for local multiplayer.
