Sony is all set to launch another exclusive shooter video game called Concord in August 2024 and just like Helldivers 2, they plan to keep the paid content strictly cosmetic only. So, no matter how much one spends on the game, it will not help them in becoming better at it.

Concord will serve as a competition for Overwatch 2, a game created by Blizzard Entertainment, which is now owned by Microsoft. Sony is working with Firewalk Studios to give PlayStation and Windows fans an exclusive sci-fi PvP first-person shooter. The beta of the game is expected to kick off in July 2024 while the final game is scheduled to release later this year.

Microtransactions In Concord Won’t Improve Your Gameplay

In a recent interview with VGC, Concord‘s director of IP, Kim Kreines, confirmed that Concord will only allow players to purchase cosmetic items, so any microtransaction will not affect the gameplay. She said,

We’re going to launch with our 16 characters, 12 maps, and 6 modes – That’s all included when you buy the game, and seasonally we’re providing new maps, new modes, and new characters, alongside their unfolding story.

She further added:

There are purely cosmetic pieces that you can choose to further customize the look of your character, that you can choose to purchase. Those do not affect gameplay. We believe so strongly that the full experience should be available to all of our players.

Developed by Firewalk Studios and published by Sony, Concord is following what Helldivers 2 has been doing all this time. This was bound to happen since the game is another Sony exclusive and their approach to microtransactions might convince some players to check out the game.

That’s not the only thing that Sony is planning to carry forward from Helldivers 2 as PC players will have to link their PSN accounts from day one if they wish to play the game. This policy caused a lot of controversy and eventually, Sony had to revoke it.

Concord’s Trailer Received A Lot Of Hate From Gamers

There are multiple reasons why gamers had mixed reactions to Concord when it was first revealed. The primary one is believed to be a lack of innovation. There are plenty of hero shooter video games out there, featuring the same concept, so the game seems like a cash grab.

The game’s trailer was bombarded with bad reviews and terrible ratings but fans need to understand that it’s too early to form any opinions. In the same interview with VGC, Kreines explained that what players saw in the trailer was just a “slice” of the final product.

Riot Games’ Valorant console version will be a strong competitor for Concord, in fact, some believe that Concord will be an instant flop given how stiff the competition is. The game will be released with a price tag of $40/£35 and Valorant has been free-to-play for a while now.

The game will be released for PlayStation 5 and Windows on August 23rd. Players who have pre-ordered the game will have to get five codes for the Beta Early Access (July 12-14) and Open Beta (July 18-21). So, technically, you can play the Beta even if you have a friend that has preordered the game.

Are you looking forward to the game? Let us know in the comments.
