Giancarlo Esposito’s wish to join Marvel Studios finally came true but not as Professor X with his dream version without the iconic character’s wheelchair. The actor has been, with many of his recent cool appearances including Guy Ritchie’s action comedy, The Gentlemen, climbing up the ladder of popularity since his iconic portrayal of Gus Fring in Breaking Bad.
Recently, Esposito confirmed that he is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the role of the actor remained undisclosed. Of course, Marve Studios has been casting actors for different projects including Fantastic Four but the casting of The Mandalorian star propelled fans to think of Kang.
Will Giancarlo Esposito Replace Jonathan Majors As Kang?
The Jonathan Majors debacle has seemingly tarnished Marvel’s plans with Kang following the actor being convicted of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Marvel Studios dismissed the actor following the ruling of the court and there has been a cloud of doubt regarding the future of Kang in the MCU since. Certainly, this was the birth of several speculations and rumors including Marvel Studios brushing up another Big Bad but again, replacing the character with another villain would be challenging to substitute when Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is entirely focused on him.
In this scenario, as Giancarlo Esposito candidly expressed his MCU debut saying he will not be playing Professor X and the details of it will appear “sooner rather than later,” while explicitly teasing “better than you can imagine” (per Collider) fans immediately calculated the potential of the 66-year-old’s replacing Majors as Kang.
It is not a theory to dismiss without giving it a thought. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still on the slate and Marvel Studios must consider every possible option out there if the possibility of rehiring Majors is faintest.

It is not an easy task at hand for any actor to replace an established character while the character arc is still in development. However, Majors’ MCU return is improbable and with that in mind, Marvel Studios hiring another actor to continue the saga of the Big Bad could be a fitting and viable move. So far, Marvel Studios keeping things slow, perhaps to play it wise and safe after the huge box office blow following Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (where Kang was the main villain) and The Marvels. At this point, we can only predict, and while Esposito’s Kang is not the bullseye in a dart board, it’s hard to deny the possibility.
