Convicted in December 2023 of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment towards his then-partner Grace Jabbari, Jonathan Majors was thus fired from his MCU role as Kang the Conqueror. Previously appearing in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and Loki, Majors almost became an integral part of the cinematic universe.
MCU even planned to turn Kang the Conqueror into the next big baddie after Thanos. However, following his conviction, Jonathan Majors was officially kicked out of the MCU, and he lost his villainous role. However, according to certain reports, it has been noted that Majors’ abuse conviction wasn’t reportedly the reason why he was fired. There’s something more.
Jonathan Majors Was Convicted in December 2023
By the beginning of 2023, Jonathan Majors started making headlines for alleged abuse and harassment against his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The actor was arrested from his house in March 2023, after the incident was reported. Thereafter, Majors was charged with assault and harassment, against his partner. According to THR reports, Majors assaulted Jabbari during an argument in a taxi in New York.
After Jonathan Majors and Grace Jabbari’s case was taken to court, the actor maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings and chose not to take the stand. Among all the charges that were reported against Majors, he was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree.
However, after the legal proceedings went on for long, the verdict was eventually delivered after three days of deliberation. Unfortunately, the verdict came against Jonathan Majors, who was thus convicted of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassing his then-partner Grace Jabbari. Majors now faces up to a year in prison, with sentencing delivered on February 6th.
Jonathan Majors Got Fired From the MCU
After Jonathan Majors was found guilty, he was immediately dropped from all Marvel projects. While the actor was going through his legal proceedings, he was working with the MCU as Kang the Conqueror. Appearing in several Marvel projects like Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and Loki, the actor was all set to become Marvel’s next biggest villain.
Marvel Studios was planning on featuring Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror and even offered him a titular role in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. However, after the actor was convicted in December 2023, he was immediately fired and Majors lost his hard-earned career. From becoming an overnight sensation through his role as Kang in Marvel, Majors suddenly lost his spotlight.
Marvel Reportedly Fired Majors for Different Reasons
Although Marvel Studios’ decision to fire Jonathan Majors came after the actor was convicted, sources revealed via 411mania that the MCU had been planning to kick him out way ahead of the court’s verdict. According to reports, Majors’ exit from Marvel led the studio to make significant changes to the character and storyline. So much so that the MCU is now rewriting Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to minimize Majors’ appearance or remove him entirely.
Further, it has also been reported by close sources that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be getting a new title as well. Although nothing has been revealed or confirmed by Marvel Studios, the reports appear quite believable. Further, sources dropped the inside reports from the studios claiming that Marvel had been planning to fire Jonathan Majors for a long time.
Following the actor’s underperformance in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel Studios had been planning on removing the actor. Although Majors appeared in Loki, after Quantumania, Marvel had been adamant about their decision to remove the star. Now it seems Jonathan Majors’ conviction simply eased the situation for Marvel.
