To call the Elden Ring DLC highly anticipated would be an understatement, as fans have been waiting for Shadow of the Erdtree to arrive since it was announced last year. Where the base game won the Game of the Year award, the expansion seems to be gearing up towards being an epic tale itself, and judging from the amazing quality of previous Soulslike DLC from Hidetaka Miyazaki’s studio, players should have a lot to look forward to.

However, the expansion’s release may be an exciting prospect for the fanbase, but it’s the competition that knows that it should steer clear of the behemoth DLC’s way, resulting in them changing the launch dates for their own games.

Even SEGA Does Not Want That Elden Ring Smoke

The upcoming enhanced version of 2021's Shin Megami Tensei V will now be released a week earlier.
The upcoming enhanced version of 2021’s Shin Megami Tensei V will now be released a week earlier.

Ever since FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment launched the extensive gameplay trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree a month ago and revealed that it would be released in just a few months on June 21, things have definitely not been the same in the video game industry. A major example of this is Atlus and SEGA, who have earned a reputation for constantly relying on the Megami Tensei franchise, whether it is in the form of Persona or the mainline series.

However, the next installment is going to be an enhanced version of 2021’s Shin Megami Tensei V, subtitled Vengeance, and it was originally supposed to be released on the same day as Hidetaka Miyazaki’s massive expansion.

Well, it seems that SEGA and Atlus do not want that Elden Ring smoke, consequently moving up the release date for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance by a whole week, from June 21 to June 14. The 2021 title was actually much bigger in regards to scale and level design compared to the previous entries in the series, but when one is up against something as colossal as Shadow of the Erdtree, it is undoubtedly wise not to poke the bear.

Square Enix and Yoshi-P Will Graciously Give Shadow of the Erdtree One Week

Final Fantasy IV: Dawntrail will be launched one week after Elden Ring gets its DLC.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will be launched one week after Elden Ring gets its DLC.

While SEGA and Atlus did not officially confirm whether the release date change was related to Elden Ring, Square Enix and Naoki Yoshida, more commonly known as Yoshi-P, took the respectable approach by making the announcement during PAX East.

Confirming that the Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV will enter early access on June 28 and fully launch on July 2, Yoshida humorously stated that he wanted to start the former one week earlier, but he knows that “everybody would be interested in playingShadow of the Erdtree.

I’ll give you one week,” said Yoshi-P, as he joked about how he also wants to play the FromSoftware DLC before Dawntrail launches.

Do you think these companies made the right decision? What would you play first: Shadow of the Erdtree, Dawntrail, or Vengeance? Let us know in the comments!
