There’s no doubt that Helldivers 2 gets a lot of things right in the saturated live-service realm of gaming, but there’s always room for improvement in a variety of aspects. Thankfully, the community that the Helldivers sequel has created constantly comes up with amazing ideas and concepts that Arrowhead can implement in its game.
Whether or not the developer would listen is another story, but there’s one mechanic still missing in the third-person shooter title, resulting in fans showing the studio how it could work through visual means.
Helldivers 2 Could Use Some Melee Finishers
![Devouring Super Earth's enemies with weapons in Helldivers 2 is cool, but imagine if they could be hit with brutal melee finishers.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/13095647/helldivers2-1024x576.jpeg)
A passionate Helldivers 2 fan recently used the rendering capabilities of Blender and showcased how melee finishers could potentially work in the game by putting the Automatons on the receiving end.
The same member of the Helldivers community has returned with another clip, but this time, it makes the Terminids taste the brute force of Super Earth’s soldiers.
There are numerous ways in which the Helldiver devours the bugs by using pure melee skills, ranging from stomping them into the ground to throwing them away if they’re getting a little too close for comfort.
The concept video also combines a couple of gameplay mechanics like jumping over the enemy and then kicking their face, but the standout highlight created by the Helldivers 2 player is when the democratic soldier stabs a Terminid in its head. Another applaudable aspect of the short demo is that since the Terminids come in all shapes and sizes, the melee finishers, like the stabbing one, work differently on each type.
As players keep hoping for Arrowhead to fix the weapon balancing issues that have been plaguing the game for quite some time, perhaps the inclusion of melee finishers could put some much-needed spark back into the title.
Arrowhead Game Studios Has a Condition for Melee Weapons
![The developer wanted to handle melee weapons respectfully, and the finishers in the concept video seem quite respectful.](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/13101515/helldivers22-1024x576.png)
After witnessing the potential of melee finishers in the concept video, the Helldivers 2 player base is naturally impressed and wants it to be implemented in the actual game by the developer.
With the kind of moves shown in the demo footage, players are pointing out how enjoyable and effective they would be on various Terminid types, like Stalkers.

Fans are aware that the implementation of the melee finishers may be a bit simpler for just a minute-long concept video, and putting it in a game that uses an antiquated engine with so many enemy types would require quite a lot of effort, but there is an alternative that Arrowhead Game Studios could provide instead.

This is not the first time that the topic of melee weapons has been brought up among the Helldivers 2 community, but according to the game’s Discord community manager, Arrowhead will consider it if it is handled in a respectful way.
Fortunately, the melee finishers in the concept video provide a suggestion that stays true to the Helldivers sequel’s core, and the developer should definitely look into it.
Would you like melee finishers to be included in Helldivers 2, or are you completely fine with just shooting the enemies? Let us know in the comments!
