Shooting bugs may be fun, but continuously hitting them with melee weapons would be amazing.

"We don't want to be Fortnite": According to Arrowhead, Helldivers 2 Could Be Getting 1 'plausible' Addition Fans Have Been Begging for Since Launch, but Only if It Can Be Done Respectfully

SUMMARY

  • Helldivers 2 players should not rule out the possibility of melee weapons coming to the game.
  • The official Discord community manager for the title has assured fans that the team will handle it just right.
  • Arrowhead Game Studios has a lot of respect for the universe it has created, so any addition needs to be in line with the lore.

Helldivers 2 has no shortage of weapons that Arrowhead keeps blessing the community with to aid in its battles to protect Super Earth from galactic enemies. These range from regular guns to overpowered lasers and flamethrowers that players have at their disposal to take out the Terminid and Automaton armies, but there’s still one aspect that hasn’t been properly implemented by the developers.

While Helldivers 2 players are loving the way in which Arrowhead encourages different loadouts to approach various situations, melee elements are usually never the attacking option that they go for since they don’t offer much, but that could be changing soon.

Melee Weapons Could Be Coming to Helldivers 2, but Arrowhead Has Rules

Flamethrowers are cool and all, but imagine attacking enemies with melee weapons in Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2 comes with a default general type of melee attack, but it’s quite basic and often not the best route to take in the middle of an intense battle. Just like the mechs that made their way into the game not so long ago, weapons like bayonet rifles used to be a major element of the first installment, so it’s natural for fans to expect them to make a comeback in some shape or form in the sequel.

Arrowhead itself has shown melee weapons in Helldivers 2 promotional art in the past, resulting in fans heading over to the title’s Discord and asking the developer what is taking so long for them to arrive.

Fortunately, Arrowhead has been quite active on its social media channels, so it didn’t take long for community manager Twinbeard to assure fans that the Helldivers 2 development team has been “busy the past month” and that they shouldn’t be losing hope. Pointing out how it has only “been a month, not a year” since the possibility of melee weapons was mentioned, Twinbeard states that “it might still happen.”

The community should continue to put its trust in Arrowhead because, according to the Helldivers 2 Discord manager, the inclusion of these weapons is “plausible.”

The Developer Wants to Handle Melee Weapons With the Utmost Respect

Arrowhead Game Studios keeps blessing fans with new and improved weapons, but the community still wants melee options.

Twinbeard continued that there is way too much “respect” that Arrowhead Game Studios has “for the game fantasy and lore,” so the only way in which the developer will add melee weapons to Helldivers 2 is if it is handled in a highly authentic manner.

For those players who were hoping to run around with “lightsabers from Star Wars” in the Helldivers sequel, there is bad news, as that would be quite disrespectful to what the game has managed to achieve up until now.

The Helldivers 2 Discord community manager concluded by saying that “we don’t want to be Kingdom Hearts or Fortnite” by adding in too many unnecessary elements that do not fit the universe that Arrowhead has created.
