Few feelings can compare to coming to the end of a fantastic game. The only way to scratch that itch is for the developer to add more to the game, either via DLC or a new installment entirely. Well, Elden Ring is getting a new DLC, and Hidetaka Miyazaki has hinted the game’s fate is not as conclusive as we think.

So far, FromSoftware’s only franchise has been the Souls series. Even though the fans have been clamoring for it, and a Project Beast keeps popping up in the rumor mill, there’s no sequel for Bloodborne. So, when people didn’t hear about DLC for Elden Ring, they felt the story had concluded.

That’s why the announcement of Shadow of the Erdtree, and recent revelations, have caused a lot of excitement. Miyazaki has confirmed that the expansion will be the one and only DLC, but that doesn’t mean we won’t get anything new from the game ever again.

It is the first and last DLC. We have no plans to add more content to Elden Ring. But it has not yet been decided whether the entire story of Elden Ring will be the focus.

FromSoftware’s style of doing things is that it generally does not allow the future of an IP to be easily locked, but it is better to leave some possibilities.

The statement comes from an interview with the Chinese outlet Zhuanlan, so there may be some differences in the translation.

Miyazaki’s words are undoubtedly music to the ears of Elden Ring fans. Even though Shadow of the Erdtree is the largest DLC yet and will offer a map as large as Limgrave, it’s not going to be enough for fans who want more and more from the game.

The interview also revealed some key details, such as that St. Trina, who is only hinted at in the main game, will be making an appearance in the expansion. We will also get to know more about their relationship with the demigod Miquella, who is going to be a very important character in the DLC.

Miyazaki now has a fanbase begging for more content, faster than the studio can put out. However, this doesn’t seem to be ruffling his feathers, as the man prefers to focus on quality rather than quantity, ensuring every title out of FromSoftware is a good gaming experience.
