Recently, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed some difficult information about his personal life during an episode of his podcast, Arnold’s Pump Club. The world-renowned actor revealed that he went through surgery to get a pacemaker implanted. The reason for this was because of a genetic heart condition that he has been keeping private.

“I have some personal news to share. Last Monday, I had surgery for a pacemaker and became a little bit more of a machine,”

When announcing this news, he made a joke that he was turning into more of a machine now after the pacemaker, making a nod to his time as the Terminator, the robot he played for several years.

“First of all, I want you to know I’m doing great!” He went on, “Nobody would ever have thought I started the week with a surgery. I want to thank my whole team at the Cleveland Clinic. All of the doctors and nurses took amazing care of me and made the surgery as painless as possible,” 

He then told his fans to not worry about him as he is doing excellently well for someone who underwent surgery a week ago. So much so, that many would not even believe that he had been unwell. He then went on to thank his medical team and all who supported him through this difficult time.

Opening Up About His Illness Was Not Easy For Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger then went on to get a little more personal about how sharing the news of his illness was impacting him. He famously had a very difficult childhood, having an extremely complicated relationship with his father. Speaking on this, the actor revealed that talking about his ailments, on their own, is a challenge for him as he was taught against sharing weaknesses with the entire world.

Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that talking about his health “goes against so much of my upbringing in Austria,” 

However, there is a very significant reason why the actor feels obligated to share his journey. Since his diagnosis, Schwarzenegger has found that many who don’t feel comfortable enough talking about their own illnesses, felt safe sharing them with him. He felt that sharing his health journey on such a great scale would help them feel stronger about making it through.
