Saber is Introducing Their Own Take For Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
After taking over from Relic Entertainment, Saber Interactive wants to keep the spirit of the original game while adding modern touches with features used today. The team intended to make the sequel more violent and raw, with a type of cold cruelty that fits well with Warhammer 40,000’s tone, according to creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick.
In an interview with GameSpot, Hollis-Leick gave some insights into the reasons behind the creative approach Saber is taking for Space Marine 2
The first one with the Cockney Orks had more of a subtle cartoonish element to it, a comic book feel perhaps. This version feels more real, harsher, bolder. I would call it a maturation of the original game.
Since the universe of Warhammer 40K is a dark and dangerous one, Saber has made the choice to abandon the original game’s comic tone in favor of a harsher, more realistic one. This decision could potentially serve as something that helps player immersion. Although there was a slight cartoonish aspect in the original game, Hollis-Leick said the sequel will be harsher, more genuine, and bolder.
With this approach in mind, one of the changes they made in Space Marine 2 is the violence and presentation. The first game had a subtle cartoonish feel, especially with its Cockney Orks.
Features Coming to Space Marine 2
The team behind Space Marine 2 has recognized that gaming has evolved over the past 12 years. This has helped them look at the original game critically and make the decisions they think are right with the sequel.
With masses of enemies on screen at once, the game will feature an environment filled with chaos by using the same swarm technology that was used in World War Z. This technology will allow for grand battles that encapsulate the charm of the Warhammer 40K universe.
Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 will include multiplayer modes that follow a live-service model alongside its originally single-player domain. Some fans expressed concern over rumors of the game featuring microtransactions – a feature that many players would dislike.
However, it was clarified that all the in-game content will be accessible with no paywalls. To ensure that there are no gameplay advantages linked to financial purchases, the paid DLC will include cosmetic items that only serve to allow players to customize themselves.
