Snyder’s DC tenure ended after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over the studio. Still, the director has been very protective of his philosophy— often casting the inherent darkness on the characters. Particularly, putting them into a pit of moral dilemma.

Man of Steel has been and will always be one of the most important movies of Henry Cavill. The Superman movie explores the origin story of the character and introduces one of the powerful DC villains, General Zod. At the end of the movie, Superman has to kill Zod despite the critical perception of the common consensus for the act. Zack Snyder, however, is still defensive of the scene. Speaking with GQ, the director revealed the reason behind putting Superman in that position. “Zod’s not wrong from his point of view, but also, there’s no really room for humans in the scenario that Zod’s presenting,” Snyder said.

“And he’s not going to stop he wasn’t going to negotiate an outcome, so it was either Zod or us. And that was pretty much the game. There was no like middle ground. Zod said he would fight until either you kill me or I kill you, that’s the game there’s no like and they’re like but why would you put Superman in that position? I’m like well if Superman can’t handle that position then he’s fake, then he’s not you got to like he’s got to address the scenarios that come to him he can’t pick and choose as you can’t pick and choose when something is outside of your morality.”

Snyder has always been open to challenging the mighty heroes with moral ambiguity. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the director employed a similar challenge throwing at Batman in the “I believe you” scene. Still, these movies worked despite the director’s brave and bold emphasis on going against the natural flow.

Man of Steel 2 never happened, but Snyder has a pretty clear picture of what the sequel to the 2013 movie would look like. “Here’s what happened in my opinion. Once you talk about the fact that Bruce Wayne exists in the same world as Superman right then you are into a Batman concept,” Snyder told GQ about the hypothetical sequel of Man Of Steel.

“Now, Man of Steel 2, if you were to make it, you know with Brainiac or whatever you’re going to do which it certainly could have been you’re just, and maybe that’s it you hold it off for a movie and that’s possible. I just felt like I needed to know what Bruce’s take on this was like Bruce’s take on the near destruction of the world and it really depends on how important you think Batman is in the Trinity cuz the truth is Batman can’t do anything necessarily immediately to stop Superman.”

Certainly, it would be interesting to see Bruce Wayne’s immediate reaction to Superman’s existence in the same world as his. Of course, both the superheroes have different philosophies, but there are several common grounds as well. Regardless, the movie would set the premise of the duo confronting a threat of another villain lurking above their head.
