Among the slew of things that have gotten people hooked on The Bear is the relationship that seems to be on the horizon between Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy and Eyo Adebiri’s Sydney. While the slow-burn setting of their romance is something that has been widely discussed and anticipated, an update from White himself has been welcome news, despite it being unpopular.

Season 2 of The Bear saw the titular restaurant open and have a great opening night, but also saw Claire leave after Carmy’s rant brought her to tears. The season focused on building Carmy and Sydney up as business partners, but their fans anticipated that there was a romance on the horizon for the duo. However, White has revealed that the show will focus on no such relationship between the duo.
Fans are happy that The Bear is choosing to focus on characters rather than romance

Fans have taken to the internet to express their relief that the show is not going to force a romance between Jeremy Allen White‘s Sydney and Carmy, which many believe would ruin the show and all that it has worked towards with its previous two seasons.
Im so glad they shut this down. Their characters absolutely would be ruined if they tried to focus on that instead of other shit

There shouldn’t be.
Both of them are perfect as coworkers who want to achieve greatness.

While a popular ship among the fans, it is clear that the show is not going to take that route, and fans are happier for it. Introducing a romantic subplot in the show could convolute the type of relationship that they have had so far. It is for the best that the show keeps them as allies and friends, rather than turning the relationship into the focus of the show, such that they develop romantic feelings for each other, which would not only be cliched but also boring.
The Bear has done some great work with character dynamics

The Bear Season 1 and Season 2 did a lot of work setting up the dynamics between a diverse cast of characters. What it managed to do was drive the plot through complex relationships, ones that had interested fans thanks to the way the writers approached them. What must be noted is that the show was proficient in making deep characters, the kind that would only suffer narrative indignities if they were forced into the kind of setting that would merit romances between the likes of Carmy and Sydney.
The show seems well set to enter into a premiere that seems to be as well done as its previous two seasons. The third season of the show has already generated considerable hype, coming out at a time when other heavy hitters like The Boys and House of the Dragon have entered the mainstream conversation.
The Bear begins streaming its third season on Hulu on June 26th, 2024
