Horror-comedy is one of the most intriguing genres out there, as it includes a weird mix of spooky terrors and sudden bouts of uncontrollable laughter. One of the many successful films that belonged to that genre is Samara Weaving’s Ready or Not. With an interesting premise and gore-filled comedy, the 2019 film managed to earn over $57 million at the global box office with a minuscule budget of $6 million.
Viewers who loved the thriller-comedy can now rejoice as a sequel to the film is currently in the works. And it has been confirmed that Samara Weaving will be returning for part 2. The script is complete, and the Radio Silence directing team is working out to bring the next installment to silver screens.
However, looking at the current scenario, it might take some time, which is not good news for those eagerly awaiting Ready or Not 2.
Ready or Not 2 Script is Ready, But is “getting figured out”
While it is great news that the script for Ready or Not 2 is already complete, there is some bitterness in the fact that bringing the end product to the table will need a few more years. Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, the director duo working on the film, recently talked to EW while promoting their new film Abigail. Gillett said,
“It’s getting figured out. That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening.”
While we are not sure what lies ahead of Samara Weaving‘s Grace, the director promised that Ready or Not 2 will be a banger like the previous one.
Ready or Not Director is Proud of Sequel’s Script
The foundation of a good movie lies in its script. And Ready or Not directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin think they’ve conjured up exactly that. Without revealing any details about the sequel in the works, Gillett reiterated how proud he is of the screenplay. He continued,
“That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways. I don’t think we knew after making it that there would be so much story left to tell. We’re so proud of what that first movie is, we’re so proud of what the sequel is. We’re just really excited, and fingers crossed that it gets made.”
Bettinelli-Olpin added:
“And with Searchlight and Samara, they’re not gonna let it down.”
Escape Room director Adam Robitel has been assigned to helm the sequel film, other than that not much is known about it so far. As Weaving prepares to take up arms against the next set of murderous in-laws, or whoever is next up on her list, fans anxiously look forward to the arrival of Ready or Not 2.
Ready or Not is streaming on Fubo TV.
