Amid recent rumors surrounding The Brave and the Bold casting, DC head James Gunn’s latest update could be seen as encouraging news for Ackles, suggesting that he still has the opportunity to don the cape as the next Batman.
James Gunn Debunks The Brave and the Bold Casting Rumors
One of the highly anticipated projects among James Gunn’s DCU slate also includes The Brave and the Bold. Unlike previous iterations of the DC superhero the film promises to offer a fresh perspective on the Dark Knight.
Based on Grant Morrison’s comic book run, it will explore the relationship between Batman and his son Damian Wayne, as he takes him under his wing as the new Robin. The film has yet to reveal its cast.
However, there have been numerous rumors that the studio has already cast the DCU’s Batman. Other rumors also suggested that Batman could potentially be the next character Gunn would focus on casting after Superman and Supergirl.
However, the DC co-CEO has debunked any such rumors while responding to fans’ queries recently on Threads. “No. We haven’t even begun casting for the DCU Batman,” the filmmaker said, debunking any potential casting claims surrounding The Brave and the Bold.
These updates followed Gunn’s assurance that the film will not be impacted by Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy. While fans eagerly await news of the next Batman in the DCU, with the latest update hopes remain high, particularly for Jensen Ackles to potentially step into the role.
Jensen Ackles on the Prospect of Playing Batman in DCU
While the studio has not started looking for the Batman actor yet, fans have already shared who they want to see take on the role of the Caped Crusader in the DCU. Among many actors, Jason Ackles has become the top choice for the role.
The Supernatural actor not only possesses the skills to embody the superhero but he also has e significant level of experience, as he has voiced the character in numerous DC projects. After embodying the character in the animated projects, Ackles has expressed his wish to embody the character in love action projects under the DCU.
“I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes,” he said when asked about playing Batman in DCU, as per Deadline. However, the actor also noted that he did not have any such discussion with the DC Studios or James Gunn himself.
The actor also joked that he might lose the role to The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, who is set to make his MCU debut with the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. “Will I be mad when Pedro Pascal gets it? Yeah. God bless you, Pedro,” he said before adding, “You just keep killing it, buddy. Let me know when you pass on something.”
As of now, Gunn has confirmed that the casting for The Brave and the Bold leading stars has not started yet. While the film does not have a specific release date yet, it is unlikely to premiere in theaters before 2026.
