Upon its release last year, The Flash became one of the biggest mishaps in DC history, whose performance summed up the struggling state of the DCEU that finally ended with Aquaman 2. But while The Flash became a disaster for WBD, which failed to break even, prior to its release, many Hollywood biggies claimed that it was the next big thing in CBMs, including DCU head James Gunn.
Although many speculated that it was some sort of marketing strategy from WBD’s side, surprisingly Gunn and Co. gave The Flash director Andy Muschietti the keys to DCU’s Batman. And while many were in doubt, whether it was still the case or not following The Flash‘s failure, it seems Gunn is still putting faith in the It director to do the Caped Crusader justice.
James Gunn Is Still Reportedly Sticking with Andy Muschietti for The Brave and the Bold
In a previous episode of The Hot Mic, John Rocha reported that Andy Muschietti was seemingly cut off from The Brave and the Bold after the catastrophic failure of The Flash, which lost WBD $150M. But it appears this might not be the case, as per Jeff Sneider, James Gunn and Co. are still sticking with Andy Muschietti for TBAB, despite his last feature failing to meet the expectations.
It’s important to note that much of The Flash‘s failure had to do with its under-par visuals and the controversy surrounding its lead Ezra Miller. But one of the best parts of the movie was Batman, as Muschietti did a great job with both Ben Affleck’s swansong and Michael Keaton’s return as Bruce, which does explain why Gunn chose Muschietti in the first place.
Alan Ritchson Would Love to Become DCU’s Batman
With DCU already announcing its Superman, fans are patiently waiting to see who’ll be picked to helm Batman in the new universe. And while it seems there is still a long way to go before that happens, Alan Ritchson, who was fan-cast as DCU’s Bruce Wayne, expressed he’d love to play Batman.
Known for starring in Reacher, Ritchson was chosen by fans as the next actor to tackle the iconic gig following his brooding nature in the series. And although the actor himself debunked the rumors, stating that he hasn’t been asked yet to play Batman, he stressed he’d love to do that.
“As huge as this rumor mill is, I feel like this part should be offered on a silver platter at this point. I would love to play Batman. But, I’m not yet Batman. I don’t know what, I don’t know what Gunn’s approach is gonna be. But yeah, that’d be great. He’s one of the most iconic characters of all time.”
Following Andy Muschietti’s previous work on It, with a great writer on board, The Brave and the Bold could turn out to be a worthy addition to Batman’s rich filmography.
