When Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for $75.4 billion in October 2023, fans were sure that they would soon get a Call of Duty title in the Xbox Game Pass, however, fans have been waiting for 6 months and so far, there’s nothing. That might change soon as a fan recently discovered that a Call of Duty title unexpectedly appeared on Xbox Cloud Gaming, fueling speculations that Microsoft could make an announcement very soon.
Everyone knows that sooner or later, a Call of Duty title will be added to the game pass but no one knows when. Earlier this year, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, confirmed that “the full portfolio of games” from Activision Blizzard will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft has the perfect opportunity to make the announcement during the Xbox Showcase event in June 2024.
A Call of Duty title mysteriously appeared on Xbox Cloud Gaming
A user named Psychological-Pool-3 recently posted a screenshot on the r/XboxGamePass subreddit highlighting that 2015’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III has unexpectedly appeared on Xbox Cloud Gaming. The user explained that their device froze when they clicked on so it’s most probably an unintentional mistake.
Since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, fans have eagerly awaited a Call of Duty game feature in the Xbox Game Pass. It’s been roughly 6 months since the deal was finalized and so far, fans have only got assurance that a Call of Duty title is coming to the Xbox Game Pass but there is no information as of now. Many gamers believe that Microsoft is just preparing for the final announcement, which could happen in June 2024.
Phil Spencer has confirmed that Call of Duty titles are coming to Xbox Game Pass
In February, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer seemingly confirmed in an interview with GameFile that Microsoft plans to add ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard, and XGS games to the Xbox Game Pass,
“Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard and XGS – Xbox Game Studios – will be on Game Pass, day one.”
In an X post, Xbox also confirmed in February that there will be an Xbox Showcase event in June 2024. Microsoft can use this perfect opportunity to announce Call of Duty titles for Xbox Game Pass while showcasing games like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, Ara: History Untold, and Towerborne at the event. By doing this, Xbox will definitely gain an edge over PlayStation and attract more gamers.
